Summary: The EHS Manager will lead & facilitate the integration of EHS processes, standard operating procedures/policies, assists in administering programs, and training in compliance with local Federal and State regulations and standards. This position will counsel and support operations management and employees in activities to achieve a safe and healthy working environment, and to sponsor supervisory/employee-based activities that will reinforce an efficient/productive EHS work culture. This is a hands-on role with significant time spent in all parts of the operation, observing, monitoring, training and coaching employees towards EHS goals and initiatives.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Regulatory Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory agencies.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of EHS regulations and industry best practices.
- Lead EHS permitting processes, being a close liaison with local regulatory authorities to ensure operations/activities are in full compliance with environmental regulatory requirements. Give input to leadership team on various compliance requirements, drive compliance assurance.
- Support necessary programs to assure compliance with industrial safety, ergonomics, chemical safety, and environmental protection requirements
- Program Management:
- Drive the implementation of CHG EHS Programs and continuous improvement in EHS performance in order to achieve EHS excellence. This will include but not limited to all environmental expectations, emergency preparedness, safety risk assessments (SRA's) and EHS procedures, waste management, ergonomics, contractor safety, EHS culture, etc.
- Drive improvement and track goal(s) achievement through collection, analysis and communication of EHS and KPI data (including but not limited to programs evaluation, work place audits, ATS finding(s) closure, training completion, injuries and illnesses and other significant events) in Gensuite (or similar) EHS management system.
- Develop and implement appropriate corrective-action / continuous improvement plans
- Risk Assessment:
- Conduct regular EHS audits and inspections to identify potential hazards.
- Perform risk assessments and develop strategies to mitigate identified risks.
- Incident Management:
- Oversee incident reporting, investigation, and corrective actions.
- Analyze incident data to identify trends and develop preventive measures.
- Lead Injury & Illness tracking and case management.
- Training:
- Conduct EHS training courses for assigned program areas for facility(s)
- Safety Culture Promotion:
- Foster a culture of safety and environmental responsibility among all employees.
- Act as a liaison between management and employees to promote EHS awareness.
- Reporting and Documentation:
- Maintain accurate records of EHS activities, training, and compliance audits.
- Prepare reports for management and regulatory agencies as required.
- May support/oversee more than one manufacturing or warehouse facility with EHS.
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements:Education/Certifications and Experience:- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, or a related field.
- ASP or CSP a plus but not required.
- 5+ years of experience in EHS management, preferably in food manufacturing.
- Experience in food manufacturing, and a basic understanding of plant operations, a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:- Proficient use of computer, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote), and other related applications or software.
- Ability to read, understand, interpret and apply applicable EHS regulations as they apply to the plant site.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate, in both written and verbal form, to a wide variety of stakeholders including but not limited to supervision, engineering, and shop floor associates
- Possesses the ability to represent CHG in a professional manner to outside agencies, customers, and vendors
Supervisory Responsibilities:Working Conditions and Physical Effort:- Typical work in office environment or walking around manufacturing environment.
- Work involves daily and frequent exposure to unusual elements, such as dirt, dust, fumes, odors, darkness and/or poor lighting, noise and vibration. Seasonal exposure to weather elements to include, but not limited to, extreme temperatures, wetness and humidity.
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up and carry 35 pounds at times.
- Travel on an as-needed basis, which may vary depending on business requirements (10-15%).
