We are looking for an experiencedResource Management Forester I to join our team at our Forest Resources Atlantic Region facility.
The Resource Management Forester I will primarily be focused on sustainable forest management activities as a member of a regional team consisting of foresters and other resource professionals. Westervelt Woodlands' Regions encompass approximately 150,000 acres of company-owned timberlands. Regional teams are responsible for forest management, wood flow, acquisition, and other activities. As stewards of the land our foresters employ research-based, site-specific silvicultural and operational tools to maximize the health, growth, and value of the resource, working with and through internal teams, service providers, and contractors to accomplish defined management objectives.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
-Support planning and execution of forest management activities including site preparation, regeneration, competition control, nutrient management, and other activities to drive sustainable long-term value.
-Contribute to development and administration of budgets and capital plans, managing production costs, and submitting and executing contracts as part of regional forest management team.
-Build and apply professional/technical knowledge of soils, silvics, genetics, and forestry practices while developing and growing an understanding of the managed resource.
-Develop knowledge of contractors, capabilities, and equipment available for silviculture operations including chemical and mechanical treatments, fertilization, and harvesting.
-Assist in creation and submission of accurate and timely silviculture plans through forest management system in accordance with Woodlands operational calendar.
-Support contract requests and develop relationships with service providers for silviculture treatments and activities to ensure quality and meet forest management objectives.
-Monitor BMP and EMS compliance to ensure sustainable forest management systems, supporting stewardship initiatives contributing to certification programs including SFI and FSC.
-Conduct forest inventory activities and management cruises to support informed silviculture decision-making, harvest scheduling, and other key functions.
-Develop ability to utilize GIS systems, inventory, analysis, modeling tools, and other forest management software to facilitate informed plans and decisions.
-Actively support the company safety program exhibiting safety as a core value.
RequiredQualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Forestry or related field
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Minimum of 1 year relevant experience
- Knowledge of silviculture and forest management activities
- Ability to budget, forecast, and monitor forest management operations
- Ability to conduct forest inventories and utilize technical tools such as management software, ArcGIS, etc.
- Ability to work as a member of a team in complex situations to develop and execute solutions
- Registered Forester or ability to obtain registration
The base salary range for this position is$53,500 - $80,300. Actual base salary isbased on the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate.
