Job Summary Works in a team environment to provide permit, monitoring, reporting, and compliance support across a range of air programs for power generating stations. Work may also include compliance support for other company facilities (e.g., electric transmission and distribution, service centers, office buildings, or other regulated and commercial business operations). Also engages in regulatory development activities. The desired candidate will exhibit knowledge that enables them to serve as an internal resource or subject matter expert on the team. Air permitting and regulatory experience required. Environmental experience in Oklahoma is a plus.

Environmental Specialist Sr. (grade 7) = bachelor's degree + six (6) years of experience. May be considered entry-level with a master's or doctorate degree.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Coordinates and performs multiple and complex environmental compliance and support activities such as permit interpretation, preparation or development of permit applications/reporting, comment packages on draft permits, agency negotiations, policy development, complex/advanced data analysis, facility compliance reviews, training sessions, compliance audits, scientific/analytical investigation.
- Leads, facilitates and coordinates work activities of others or those external to the company (e.g., consultants) as required to perform compliance work.
- Interprets permits, regulations, policy, codes, and/or standards and provides guidance and recommendations in the context of complex compliance situations.
- Actively participates in development of policy, regulations, standards, and guidance including participation in professional organizations as assigned
- Initiates, develops, reviews, or prepares strategies, summaries, or reports on complex technical subjects clearly, concisely and effectively, in a manner suitable for presentation to management, professional societies, regulatory bodies, etc.
- Proficient in written and verbal communication with internal or external stakeholders
- Consistently looking for and developing opportunities, presenting new ideas and approaches, and identifying or initiating appropriate corrective actions when objectives are not met
- Responsive to and supportive of internal/external stakeholders for permit, programmatic, regulatory, or reporting support which may include the need on a time-sensitive or expedited schedule
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST SR. (grade 7)Education: Bachelor's degree (environmental science, biology, chemistry, natural resources, or ecology or related field)
Work Experience: Minimum of 6 years of environmental experience.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must be available to work overtime, call-out overtime and shift work, as required. Travel requirements are expected 10-25% of the time Physical demand level is Sedentary
- Individuals with a Master's or Doctorate degree may be considered for entry into the organization at this level.
- Registration in recognized associations and organizations for environmental professionals is encouraged. 3. 40 hours per week with some overtime required. 4. Periodic travel required.
ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER (grade 7)Has typically acquired 4 or more years of related engineering experience along with a Bachelor's degree in engineering in a program accredited by ABET*; or 2 years of related engineering experience along with a Master's degree in engineering from a program accredited by ABET*; Individuals with a PhD in engineering from an engineering program accredited by ABET* may be considered for entry into the organization at this level; Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in any U.S. state or Puerto Rico** is encouraged and preferred.
*ABET - Engineering Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. Acceptable alternatives are (1) a Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET), plus a Professional Engineers (PE) license in any state of the U.S. or (2) a Bachelor's degree in engineering (non-ABET) plus a Master's degree or PhD in engineering from a university with an ABET accredited Bachelor's program.** Confirmation is required to ensure the PE obtained in Puerto Rico aligns with NCEES standards.

Compensation Range:$94,225.00-122,490.00 USD
Candidates will be considered based on their qualifications and the candidate's ability to work from an approved work location. Although the location is flexible, AEP does not have a presence in all states and localities. AEP will consider qualified candidates who are willing to relocate to an approved work location, at the candidate's expense, provided the relocation can be completed within a timeframe that meets AEP's staffing needs.
