About the Position: The individual selected for this position will perform compliance and enforcement actions statewide to determine if permit special terms and conditions are being met for industrial, agricultural, and public supply withdrawals of surface water and groundwater.Apply engineering principles and practices to ensure compliance with state laws and regulations so that the water resources of the State are properly managed and maintained.Assist with the licensing of water well drillers and compliance actions associated with the MS Water Well Drillers Licensing Program.Perform data entry, query, scanning, reporting, and presentations as required. Incumbent must possess a valid Driver's License from Mississippi or a contiguous state.

What you'll need to be Successful: Successful employees will need organization and time management skills with the ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines. Attention to detail is a must. Needs to have excellent communication skills and customer service practices.

Preferred Qualifications: Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in engineering, preferably with courses in environmental engineering and possession of a certificate of registration as an Engineer in Training from the Mississippi State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers. **Agency Preferred Qualifications: A Bachelor's Degree in an engineering curriculum from a school or college approved by the Mississippi State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as of satisfactory standing, preferably with courses in environmental engineering;ORA Master's Degree in an engineering curriculum from a school or college wherein that same engineering curriculum at the undergraduate level is approved by the Mississippi State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors as of satisfactory standing, preferably with courses in environmental engineering;ANDA Bachelor's Degree in engineering, engineering technology, or related science curriculum of four (4) scholastic years from a school or college other than those approved by the Mississippi State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors, preferably with courses in environmental engineering.

Examples of Work

First-level engineering position accountable for routine professional and technical environmental engineering work involving the implementation of federal, regional and statewide programs for the control of drinking water, air and water pollution, hazardous waste, solid waste, or other environmental activities. Work at this level involves contact with federal, state, county and municipal officials, consulting engineers, industrial officials, developers, water and sanitary system operators, and the general public. The work is performed under close supervision from a licensed environmental engineer of a higher classification.
Minimum Qualifications

Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in engineering, preferably with courses in environmental engineering and possession of a certificate of registration as an Engineer in Training from the Mississippi State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
