This
Marine Fisheries Biologist Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of the biologists and technicians working in the Washington Regional Office in the Northern District for the Fisheries Management Section and specifically works to ensure that Division sampling projects and federal aid projects are meeting program goals and objectives. The Biologist Supervisor will participate directly in fisheries management activities of the Division, including development and implementation of state fishery management plans (FMPs) and will also participate in joint plans developed with other state and regional agencies. The position will be one of the Division's lead scientists involved with the development of one or more FMPs and will supervise the collection and analysis of the data used in those plans (this would apply to NC FMPs as well as Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission and federal Council FMPs). The position will assist the District Manager with the administration of the district by approving purchases, processing bills, completing requisitions, prioritizing and facilitating biological sampling activities, drafting proclamations, responding to public inquiries, attending public meetings and hearings, and promoting good relationships with both the commercial and recreational industry. This position requires strong communication skills to deal with stakeholders, scientific colleagues and Division staff. This position will supervise employees and manage employee performance. The ability to operate a boat and follow Coast Guard navigation rules is required.
Key Responsibilities: - Sets priorities and is responsible in the oversight of the fisheries management Washington Regional Office in the Northern District work unit, including the various lead biologists who implement the biological monitoring and section management programs for various species of finfish and shellfish and who propose sampling designs and initiate projects to meet data needs.
- Directly supervises the Biologists in the Northern District Washington Regional Office and is accountable for office activities, such as planning for sampling requirements, scheduling activities, equipment, and safety.
- Responsible for gathering input from staff, other scientists, enforcement officers, fishermen and dealers and relaying information to the Fisheries Management District Managers and Section Chief.
- The Biologist Supervisor will draft and/or review documents including federal grant reports, federal Council or Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) FMPs, North Carolina state FMPs, North Carolina Coastal Habitat Plan, and other memos and reports.

The DMF's jurisdiction encompasses all coastal waters and extends to 3 miles offshore.
