Nuclear Eng III or Senior Nuclear Engineer - I&C Brunswick Nuclear PlantJob Codes 110964/110206SummaryDuke Energy is seeking a Nuclear Engineer III or a Senior Nuclear Engineer Electrical Engineer with Instrumentation & Control (I&C) experience for the Brunswick Nuclear Plant in Southport, NC. The individual will perform design engineering work for electrical and Instrumentation & Control (I&C) projects within the engineering organization. The I&C engineering work will include digital and software focused items. Current qualification at a nuclear utility as a Modification Engineer under an INPO Accredited Program and knowledge of Passport or Consolidated Asset Suite for design and work order development is highly desirable. Experience in Operations department is considered a desirable trait as well. Individual will be required to obtain qualifications for a Modification Engineer prior to working independently. Selected individual will act as the Lead Technical and/or Responsible Engineer for assigned projects and in a support capacity on other project teams.
Responsibilities - Design package development, developing conceptual designs and specifications for bidding purposes, evaluating alternatives, technical support during implementation, setpoint development, coordination of design efforts with selected vendors/Architect Engineers/designer and conducting design package reviews.
- Working knowledge or familiarity of cyber security regulations as mandated by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) is required as digital designs need to be cyber security compliant.
- Design products related to major digital controls system replacements, software evaluations, instrument component upgrades, and control circuits are expected to be developed.
- Qualify in the necessary duty areas to act independently as a Responsible Engineer for modifications within Duke Energy with past qualifications and product demonstration from other utilities as an acceptable alternative.
- Exhibit sound technical judgment and guidance to the project team.
Basic/Required QualificationsNuclear Engineer III
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- A Master 's degree in engineering will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering.
- 4-6 years of engineering experience.
Senior Nuclear Engineer
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
- A Master's degree in engineering from an ABET accredited school will be considered in lieu of the B.S. Engineering degree.
- Minimum of 6 years of engineering experience or 5 years of engineering experience with state registration as a Professional Engineer.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:- Registration/Licensure as a Professional Engineer
- Experience in digital hardware / software modifications
- Digital / I&C engineering experience at Brunswick Nuclear Plant
- Working knowledge of digital upgrade specific licensing requirements and current 10CFR73.54 Cyber Security Requirements
- Experience developing digital / software modification test plans.
- Experience in the 10CFR50.59 with respect to designing modifications to a nuclear facility.
- Strong oral / written communication skills within a professional environment
- Skilled in the practices of researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations.
- Must be able to work in a team environment.
Specific Requirements- Minimum of 1 year of nuclear experience
- In lieu of 1 year of nuclear experience, a selected candidate is subject to the oversight and written approval authority of a designated qualified individual until the selected candidate becomes fully qualified.
- Able to achieve nuclear site Unescorted Access.
- Willingness to work extended hours with changes in work schedule whenever necessary which at times could include call outs to support stations in an emergent condition.
- This position may be required to have Emergency Response Organization (ERO) responsibilities which could include callouts with a defined response time to the site and an on-call duty rotation requiring the employee to be Fit for Duty.
- Required to wear personal protective equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, fall protection, etc.) as needed.
- Occasional overnight travel.
Working Conditions- Typically, an office environment with some work in the plant to conduct system walkdowns and field support of modification implementation.
