About the Role
The Director, Portfolio Operations & Impact Investing will drive operational excellence and impact outcomes across Gary's investment portfolio. This role leads three core functions: (1) portfolio operations management, including manager monitoring and reporting systems oversight; (2); relationship management of the School Readiness and Youth Success portfolio, with focus on maximizing Colorado-based impact; and (3) cross-functional coordination with finance, legal, and external advisors to optimize portfolio implementation.
This position is located in Denver and will require in-office presence. Out-of-state candidates will be considered, but relocation must occur.
Salary: $160 - 180K, plus bonus
Essential Duties:
Portfolio Operations (50%)
- Improve and maintain the current portfolio monitoring systems, including oversight of manager reporting processes, performance analytics, and risk assessment frameworks
- Work closely with the external Investment Advisor as well as the internal Finance & Legal team on ensuring streamlined investment operations infrastructure including capital calls, distributions, and portfolio rebalancing activities while maintaining detailed documentation of investment terms and obligations
- Lead quarterly manager review process including performance analysis, team updates, and strategy reviews while maintaining detailed records of all manager interactions and key decisions
- Oversee portfolio risk monitoring and compliance, including tracking exposures, maintaining investment guidelines
- Drive implementation and optimization of portfolio management systems and reporting capabilities, including development of automated analytics and efficient operational workflows
- Manage cash flow forecasting and liquidity planning, including monitoring of investment pacing, unfunded commitments, and coordination with finance team on capital movements
Overseeing the School Readiness and Youth Success Portfolio (35%)
- Lead oversight of School Readiness and Youth Success investment portfolio
- Develop and maintain strategic relationships with fund managers to enhance Colorado impact
- Identify and execute opportunities to leverage greater impact through existing investments
- Lead due diligence and recommendations for follow-on investments
Portfolio Strategy (15%)
- Partner with Chief Investment Officer and the external advisors on strategic portfolio decisions, including asset allocation, risk management, and long-term investment planning
- Maintain and regularly update Investment Policy Statement to reflect evolving portfolio strategy and Gary's 2035 sunset timeline
- Structure and coordinate Investment Committee meetings, including preparation of materials, portfolio reviews, and strategic discussions
- Lead integration of impact objectives into portfolio strategy, with focus on maximizing Colorado impact through 2035
Required Qualifications:
- 8+ years of institutional investment experience, with demonstrated expertise in portfolio operations and impact investing ideally at an asset allocator (private foundation, endowment, pension, investment advisor or OCIO firm)
- Strong background in portfolio monitoring systems, manager due diligence, and relationship management
- Experience working with investment committees and contributing to portfolio strategy development
- Exceptional analytical and communication abilities, with proven ability to present to senior stakeholders
- A strong dedication to Gary's mission and values, a commitment to high accountability standards, and comfort working in a culture that supports initiative and autonomy
- Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, or related field
Preferred Qualifications:
- CFA charterholder or advanced degree in finance
- Experience with investment policy development and governance

- Enhanced impact outcomes in School Readiness and Youth Success portfolio across Colorado, with demonstrated progress in key metrics
- Implementation of efficient portfolio monitoring and reporting systems that support decision-making
- Development of strong relationships with fund managers to drive Colorado-focused impact
- Strategic portfolio management aligned with Gary's 2035 sunset objectives
- Timely portfolio analytics and recommendations that enhance both financial and impact outcomes.
Compensation and Benefits
The annual salary range for the position is $160,000 - $180,000. The position will also be eligible to receive an annual bonus

This position is located in the Denver Metro area and candidates would be required to work out of Gary's offices at Union Station in Denver.
