Mid Valley Disposal is currently seeking applicants for our dynamic team. Do you enjoy doing outreach activities? Are you excited by the opportunity of working indoors and outdoors? In this role, you will help Mid Valley Disposal by supporting the Recycling Department by assisting in the planning and implementing outreach and education programs that will enable municipalities served.
RECYCLING COORDINATOR SUMMARY:
This position will conduct commercial and residential waste assessments; administer and monitor school, commercial, multi-family, residential, and government recycling programs to successfully manage waste stream reduction.
RESPONSIBILITIES:- Coordinate outreach and inspections of waste generators who are subject to food recovery legislative requirements. Perform site visits at multi-family properties (e.g. apartments) to identify service needs by conducting "diversion opportunity assessments" of customer facilities.
- Perform annual audits of customers to evaluate State legislative and city ordinance mandate compliance, including "lid flipping" of refuse, recycling, organic waste containers, waste characterization assessments, and commercial food recovery programs. Conduct business site visits, surveys, analysis.
- Provide administrative support (including answering phone calls).
- Interact directly, and maintain effective working relationships, with residents, business owners, city/county staff, customers, community groups, and the public.
- Participate in public education and outreach activities including presentations, workshops, training, and tabling events.
- Educate customers on recycling and waste stream diversion legislation (e.g., SB 1383, AB 341, and more).
- Implement commercial waste stream diversion practices through reduce, reuse, recycling, and composting programs.
- Coordinate recycling services and work with Route Managers to set schedules for new services and customers.
- Work closely with commercial accounts providing technical support.
- Conduct facility tours to service organizations, schools, business groups, and civic associations.
- Prepare reports that address progress, challenges, and successes of programs.
- Maintain records and promote statistics on program effectiveness.
- Work closely with City staff to coordinate new programs, change service levels, and assist with customer concerns or services.
- Develop community partnerships to educate and promote recycling programs.
- Drive a company vehicle to conduct activities listed above.
- Other duties as assigned Understand and can articulate regulations and procedures for jurisdiction and acts as an ambassador for Mid Valley Disposal.
- Interact with customers and address escalated concerns.
- Plan and coordinate special events in the community.
- Broad understanding of Recycling Coordinator duties to serve as a fill-in when necessary.
- Clear Understating of laws such as AB341, AB1826, SB1383, AB939.
- Act as a liaison between contracted cities and Mid Valley Disposal.
- Assist Recycling Coordinators with cities contract material.
- Provide technical support to the Recycling Coordinators with any inquiries.
- Create and complete reports for jurisdictions and Cal Recycle.
- Maintain accurate and up-to date records and documentation pertaining to the Recycling Department Data (i.e., spreadsheets, Google Docs, etc.)
- Planning and executing company activities and special events, such as city parades, jurisdictions events, and more.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- 1 year experience in waste industry or in a role requiring community/public outreach.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:- Occasional to frequent industrial lifting, Lifting waist high.
- Gripping with hands
- Moving at a brisk consistent pace
- Occasional bending
POSITION LOCATION: Mid Valley Disposal has 8 locations throughout the Central Valley. This position is in Visalia.
Fluency in Spanish is preferred but not required.
Schedule will be Monday through Friday with occasional Saturdays.
