Regional Biologist I - Great Plains Region (Kansas)Ducks Unlimited Kansas has an opening for a full-time Regional Biologist I.
Ducks Unlimited, Inc., the world's leading wetland and waterfowl conservation organization, is seeking qualified candidates for a Biologist in Kansas. The mission of Ducks Unlimited is to conserve, restore, and manage wetlands and associated habitats for North America's waterfowl. These habitats also benefit other wildlife and people. This position will work with a team of biologists and engineers to deliver habitat projects in important migration habitat throughout the state of Kansas. The position will report to Kansas Manager of Conservation Programs, Matthew Hough.
Responsibilities:- Develop and complete new protection and restoration projects along the rivers and within the wetland complexes of Kansas.
- Grant writing to raise funds for conservation work by pursuing traditional funding sources such as NAWCA and Farm Bill and various other unexplored funding sources.
- Pursue nontraditional and innovative public income and match sources (ex., EPA funding, community engagement, Kansas Water Office, etc.)
- Private landowner outreach and assistance to find win-win solutions for producers and ranchers.
- Work with DU Engineers to plan and coordinate restoration and enhancement project delivery.
- Work with regional communications staff to tell success stories and publicize needs and milestones.
- Work with the Manager of Conservation Programs on Grant Administration and habitat project development.
- Maintain and develop relationships with conservation partners to complete projects.
Qualifications:Experience and Education: - Bachelor of Science degree in Wildlife Science or Natural Resources related field. M.S. is preferred.
- Experience with Farm Bill conservation programs and implementation required.
- Experience with habitat protection (e.g. conservation easements and fee-title purchases).
- Strong writing skills and grant writing experience.
- Agricultural private landowner outreach and project development experience.
Communication Skills (preferred communication skills)- Strong communication skills across diverse audiences including peers, partners, private landowners, and other professionals.
- Ability to prepare and present technical information on conservation programs to peers and the public.
Technological Proficiency (if applicable) Knowledge of Microsoft Office and Mapping software.
Analytical Skills (if applicable)NAInterpersonal Skills (if applicable) - Ability to work effectively-both independently and as a member of a team.
