GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY:Reporting to the VP PU CAL and Managing Director MEA, the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager is responsible to deploy and drive the strategic initiatives that reduce or eliminate risk, continually improves EHS performance and reduce incidents. The position supports the development, implementation, and administration of all aspects of Safety, Health, Environmental and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programs within the scope.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: - Develop and execute a region-wide EHS and CSR strategy that shapes the future of safety and sustainability across US operations.
- Develop, implement, and promote Manitou processes/work instructions concerning environmental, industrial hygiene, and safety programs consistent with OSHA compliance.
- Lead the regional EHS team (including site EHS Coordinators) by establishing, sharing, and implementing best practices across all manufacturing facilities.
- Drive continuous improvement projects to enhance EHS performance, ensuring excellence and consistent practices at all sites.
- Drive corporate and social responsibility initiatives in alignment with the Group CSR trajectory. Track and compile metrics for reporting purposes.
- Evaluate and recommend security improvements at operating sites, ensuring full compliance with local regulations.
- Establish, schedule, and lead internal and external EHS audits and inspections of facilities and support corrective actions by collaborating with site managers, customers, third parties, and regulatory bodies to ensure documentation and corrective action.
- Monitor compliance with current and evolving Environmental, Health, and Safety regulations along with additional company requirements.
- Work in close collaboration with site point of contact to develop, implement, and measure the success of safety programs through metric based global systems.
- Oversees and coordinates all training mandated by OSHA, EPA, state or local regulatory agencies and provides continuous training for site coordinators, plant managers, manufacturing managers, and others.
- Provide expertise and guidance on internal EHS matters, including evaluating capital investments from an EHS perspective
- Develop and implement standardized EHS policies, procedures, and training programs across the organization to build a consistent EHS culture.
- Proactively lead risk control activities and ensure full compliance with guidelines and recommendations, acting as the primary contact with the insurance carrier
- Be the primary contact for regulatory permits and reporting (EPA, DNR, OSHA, air emissions, wastewater, etc.) and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local standards.
EXPERIENCE: - 5 to 7 years of manufacturing experience with environmental and safety reporting.
EXPERTISE: - Proven experience leading environmental programs in manufacturing, industrial, or similar sectors, with a focus on managing air emissions, hazardous materials, water quality, waste management, and energy use.
- Deep understanding of federal, state, and local environmental regulations and experience ensuring compliance.
- Experience working with regulatory agencies such as OSHA, EPA, and local environmental protection organizations
- Strong knowledge of sustainability initiatives and environmental impact reduction strategies, including energy conservation, waste reduction, and carbon footprint management
- Strong risk management experience, including assessing, mitigating, and managing environmental risks alongside health and safety risks.
- Strong computer skills with Microsoft products, Google Suite, ERP, Power BI and various web based software and services- like Visuant and Industry Safe, Site Hawk, and others - including state and federal reporting sites (OSHA and EPA).
- Knowledge of various monitoring/measurement devices used in both environmental and health/safety.
EDUCATION: - Bachelor of Science in a related discipline or equivalent experience of 5 to 7 years in environmental health and safety roles.
- Certified Safety Professional, Safety Engineer, Environmental Engineer (preferred)
INTERNAL & EXTERNAL CONNECTIONS: - Internal: Project Management Team, R&D, Supply Chain, Facilities, Finance, HR, MBF (Sourcing, Quality...)
- External: Suppliers, Customers within the functional management of VP QEHS- Product Division
LOCALIZATION AND TRAVEL EXPECTED: - This position can be located in Yankton or Madison, SD.
- Travel up to 40% between South Dakota, Wisconsin and Illinois with occasional travel to France.
