THE POSITION Development Engineer, Continental Tire The Americas, LLC, Fort Mill, SC: Develop new or improved designs for truck and bus tires; direct design specification release and testing of tires. Responsible for truck and bus regional tire development tasks from inception through serial production. Coordinate design concepts, FMEAs (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis), gateway presentations, technical specifications, cross section design, experimental tire builds and all necessary testing/certifications for regional tires. Gather and document market knowledge for regional application tires to assist product management with product request criteria and to request new technology developments from different divisions. Engage in product maintenance, including further development and maintenance of existing product lines, including updates to product specifications, support of quality topics and SPS (Structured Problem Solving), and introduction of new technologies and materials. Ensure all relevant OE (Original Equipment) requirements and testing are met and completed. Support technical customer service, provide technical support to internal and external customers including regarding product launches/training, testing activities, test data analysis. Telecommuting permitted up to 40%. Full time employment, Monday Friday, 40 hours per week. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering or a related field and 2 years of related work experience. Must have 2 years of experience in each of the following: Designing tires according to Original Equipment Manufacturer requirements; Overseeing the full cycle of tire development tasks, from inception to serial production, and applying tire manufacturing processes; Using data analytics and documentation tools to analyze data related to tire specifications; Working with cross-functional teams to address tire technical problem solving and product design issues; and Applying Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (D-FMEA) to tire product design.
