Description
Key Responsibilities:
Cost Estimation:
- Develop detailed and accurate cost estimates for commercial construction projects from initial bid to project completion.
- Analyze architectural and engineering plans, specifications, and other project documents to prepare comprehensive estimates.
- Identify and quantify materials, labor, equipment, and subcontractor needs.
Bid Preparation:
- Prepare and submit competitive bids in response to Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and Invitations to Bid (ITBs).
- Collaborate with project managers, architects, and engineers to ensure all aspects of the project are considered in the bid.
- Negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain the best possible pricing and terms.
Budget Management:
- Monitor project budgets and costs throughout the construction lifecycle.
- Provide regular updates and reports to management on cost variances and potential financial impacts.
- Assist in value engineering efforts to optimize project costs without compromising quality.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain organized records of all estimates, bids, and related documentation.
- Prepare detailed reports and presentations for internal stakeholders and clients.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, industry standards, and local building codes.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and other team members to gather necessary information for accurate estimations.
- Communicate effectively with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to clarify project requirements and resolve any estimation discrepancies.
- Participate in project meetings and contribute to strategic planning discussions.
Profile
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related field preferred.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Professional Estimator (CPE are a plus.
Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in commercial construction estimating.
- Proven track record of successful project estimations and bid submissions in the Portland, Oregon market.
- Experience with estimating software (e.g., ProEst, Bluebeam, PlanSwift) and Microsoft Office Suite.
Skills:
- Strong analytical and mathematical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- In-depth knowledge of construction methods, materials, and industry standards.
- Familiarity with Portland's local building codes, regulations, and permitting processes.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
