The SmartEnergy Design Assistance Center (SEDAC) is hiring an Energy Research ProgramManager to manage clean energy workforce programming and energy sustainability projects,perform research, create educational materials, and educate clients about bestpractices in program development and implementation. This position will work ina fast-paced and dynamic environment. We welcome interested applicants who canbe a part of a cross-functional, multi-organizational team. Thisposition is based in Champaign, Illinois, with potential options for hybridremote or remote work.
SEDAC is sponsored and funded by federal and state agenciesincluding the Illinois State Energy Office at the Illinois EnvironmentalProtection Agency, the Illinois Department of Commerce and Opportunity, theIllinois Department of Natural Resources; the US Environmental ProtectionAgency; the US Department of Energy; local government agencies; and otherfunding sources.
SEDAC is an applied research center at the University of Illinois atUrbana-Champaign with a mission to decrease the energy footprint of the Stateof Illinois. SEDAC works to achieve its mission through a wide range ofprograms in energy efficiency, renewable energy development, greenhouse gasreduction, and clean energy workforce development.
Duties & Responsibilities
Technical and Research
• Manage clean energy workforce programming and energy sustainability projects from initiation to planning, execution, and reporting.
• Perform research, analysis, and program development to support implementation of the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA) workforce and contractor development programs.
• Produce research materials including industry and literature reviews, reports, clean energy program manuals, training guides, and case studies.
• Participate in proposal writing for sponsored projects, including research grants, cooperative agreements, and service agreements.
Outreach and Education
• Promote awareness of SEDAC energy and sustainability programs through participation in workshops, webinars, professional conferences, and other related events on a regional scale.
• Develop SEDAC's client base through network interactions and direct client contact.
• Develop outreach materials for presentations, fliers, posters, and digital media.
• Develop slide decks and educational materials for presentations and workshops.
• Participate in planning and implementation of workshops, webinars and discussion groups.
Operations
• Track and report activities towards grants and project plans
• Quarterly and annual progress reporting.
• Evaluate overall effectiveness of the program, recommend design and development modifications, and implement changes.
• Other relevant duties as assigned to further the mission of SEDAC.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree that includes a background in public administration, public policy, education, business administration, social work, urban planning, communications, management, or other related field.
• 3 years of experience in any of the following areas: program management, administrative experience within a public or business organization, or design and/or management of a workforce or human services grant program.
• Experience developing and delivering public presentations in a variety of settings.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working with or administering workforce and/or human service programs.
• Experience developing program policies and procedures related to workforce or human services programs.
• Experience with grant writing and providing grant writing technical assistance.
• Experience working with underserved and environmental justice communities.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Excellent analytical skills and communication skills (written and verbal). Ability to research and analyze information and data to make appropriate conclusions and recommendations.
• Excellent organizational skills, such as time management, task prioritization, follow-through, and ability to meet deadlines.
• Ability to work in teams.
• Knowledge and interest within the clean energy industry including an awareness of industry trends and needs for workforce development in Illinois.
• Ability to use software such as Microsoft Office Suite and web-based information management tools
Appointment Information
Thisis a 100% full-time Academic Hourly position, appointed through June 30, 2025,with the possibility of reappointment based on performance and funding. Thisposition offers paid leave (1 hour of paid leave earned per 40 hours of work,up to 40 hours of paid leave per year). This could become a permanent positionat a later date, depending on department needs and funding. The expected startdate is as soon as possible. The budgeted range of hourly rates for thisposition is $35 per hour - $45 per hour, based on qualifications andexperience.
