DescriptionOverview:The Aquatic Attendant is a seasonal position. We offer competitive compensation, and PTO for seasonal employees.
Job Purpose:The Aquatic Attendant is responsible for cleaning and maintaining the facilities, pools, mechanical areas, ice arena and equipment in order to ensure park standards are met and facilities are clean, safe, and attractive for all users of the Park District. In addition, this position will be expected to provide excellent customer service by effectively communicating and enforcing Park District rules, regulations, and policies to pool patrons. The Aquatic Attendant is responsible for performing the essential functions as outlined in this description.
Essential Functions:- Perform routine cleaning throughout the facility including, but not limited to: bathrooms, common areas, concessions, locker rooms,pools, decks, ice arena and all public areas.
- Operate pool filtration system, pool vacuums, and all other related equipment following all Park District of Oak Park policies and procedures
- Check water chemicals and filter room hourly to ensure normal operation, safety in those areas, and compliance with code. Immediately report all issues to the Operations Supervisor
- Report maintenance needs to supervisor; follow-up on status with supervisor and/or maintenance supervisor
- Assist with facility operation by efficiently responding to customer questions, comments and concerns
- Keep tools in good condition and report any potential issues
- Inventory custodial and chemical supplies; request supplies as needed
- Identify and inspect equipment daily for possible maintenance needs and adjustments
- Enforce all facility rules including pool rules, deck rules, entrance & exit policies, locker room rules, swim diaper and rubber pants requirements, and any other rules as stated around the facility
- Practice and promote workplace safety at all times
- Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive public image by addressing questions and concerns from staff, patrons, and participants immediately
- Ensure facilities are locked and unlocked completely and properly
- Maintain a complete understanding of Park District emergency action plans and assist in the execution of the plan when required
- Wear a PDOP staff shirt and identification during all work hours
Additional Functions:- Assist in preseason set-up, post-season tear-down,and all special event set-up/tear-down
- Attend staff meetings and training programs as specified, including preseason trainings
- Complete other duties as assigned by Park District supervisors
Knowledge, Skill, and Work Experience Required:- Candidates must be at least 18 years of age at time of hire
- High School Diploma or GED required. Some college preferred
- Previous experience with preventative maintenance, painting, pools and grounds work preferred
- Knowledge of small pumps and other gas powered equipment preferred
- Experience using power tools preferred
- Exceptional customer service skills and the ability to work with other support staff
- Must be able to complete required Park District training, including preseason training
- Certification in advanced Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) within 1 month of employment and keep certification current. The District provides this training.
Work Environment, Physical Demands and Considerations:- Frequent crouching, walking, standing, climbing, reaching, bending, digging and lifting
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs
- Will be exposed to inclement weather including heat, humidity, rain, and wind
- Will be exposed to chemicals such as acids, glues, chlorine and various cleaning solutions
- Protective clothing is required as it pertains to the particular job duty. Examples include: safety goggles, closed-toed shoes, protective rubber or leather gloves, hard hat, respirator, protective suits and outer wear
- Some exposure to noise, dust, fumes, and elevation
- Ability to work independently without supervision
- Ability to be self-directed throughout entire shift
- Ability to present ideas and recommendations in a concise manner
- Ability to understand and carry out verbal and/or written instructions efficiently and effectively and to read and understand printed material
- Ability to operate assigned equipment
- Ability to be highly motivated and able to assume a positive and active role, even while working under stressful conditions
- Ability to effectively interact and communicate well with others
- Ability to interpret and explain division and District policies and procedures
- Ability to follow safety guidelines and exercise judgment in all aspects of responsibility
- Ability to resolve conflict safely, calmly and effectively
Hours: 18-30 hours weekly - early mornings, evenings, and will include weekends and holidays.
