DescriptionOverview:The Aquatic Facility Coordinators is a seasonal position. We offer competitive compensation, and PTO for seasonal employees.
Job Purpose:The Aquatic Facility Coordinator is responsible for conducting all components of public, passholder and family swims. The AFC is responsible for training the pool lifeguard staff, the day to day operation and ensures the facility is safe, clean, and supervised during operation. This individual is responsible for managing patron issues and customer service related to the pools, making sure that all patron and safety issues and concerns are addressed. In addition this individual is expected to work early mornings, late nights, weekend, and holiday hours.
Essential Functions:- Assist with lifeguard staff training during pre-season and throughout the season.
- Supervise lifeguards and staff. Provide constructive direction through observation, ongoing evaluation, mentoring, and progressive discipline when required.
- Execute EAP Drills including unconscious and spinal full EAPs monthly.
- Oversee lifeguards, cashiers, concessions and pool maintenance.
- Manage lifeguard staff attendance, rotation, breaks and assignments.
- Ensure all staff are following policies and procedures and acting in a professional manner at work.
- Ensure all lifeguard shifts are filling by replacements for absent staff, using progressive discipline when necessary. Send staff home when appropriate.
- Complete and review written end of season staff evaluations for all lifeguards. Present evaluations to staff when requested.
- Communicate and enforce Park District pool rules and policies to staff, participants and patrons.
- Manage the daily opening and closing procedures related to the aquatic staff, facility opening, checklist, hotline updates, safe inventory and facility inspection.
- Ensure camp pool time is running smoothly, oversee swim tests.
- Responsible for ensuring the deck and staff are prepared for facility opening, assist cashiers with entrance line until is subsides.
- Supervise the daily aquatic and operational activities at Ridgeland Common and Rehm Pool ensuring a safe and well run facility.
- Assist in Ellis & Associates operational audits under the direction of the Aquatic and Rink Manager or Ellis Instructor.
- Oversee swim lessons as assigned, ensure instructors are producing high quality lessons and answer parent questions or concerns.
- Report maintenance needs to the Building Supervisor or Aquatic & Rink Manager; follow-up on status.
- Oversee pool maintenance, cleaning, and upkeep. Complete maintenance tasks as needed.
- Complete all required paperwork as needed.
- Maintain a complete understanding of Park District emergency action plans and take the lead in the execution of those plans when required. Act as a leader in emergency procedure implementation and building evacuation.
- Assist in the management of operational closing and reopening for weather, emergencies, or other unsafe situations. Assist in communication of this information to other staff.
- Assist in conducting regular safety inspections of the pools. Complete all required safety and facility checklists.
- Inventory and monitor supplies; requisition supplies as needed.
- Check water chemicals and filter room hourly to ensure normal operation, safety in those areas, and compliance with code. Immediately report all issues to the Maintenance Crew Leader.
- Ensure all cleaning tasks assigned to lifeguard staff is completed in a quality manner.
- Report any policy or procedure violations by staff immediately to the Aquatic & Rink Manager
Additional Functions:- Occasionally assist with events and programs.
- Attend staff meetings and training programs as specified.
- Assist in the preparation of reports as assigned.
- Complete other duties as assigned by supervisor or other Park District administrative personnel.
- Ensure self and lifeguards engage in consistent and frequent communication with patrons regarding pool rules, safety, and other pertinent information.
- Responsible for cash handling including morning and evening safe inventory.
- Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive public image by addressing questions and concerns from staff, patrons, participants, and parents immediately. Contact and ask for assistance from supervisor or other Park District staff when necessary.
Knowledge, Skill, and Work Experience required:- Must be a high school graduate or possess a GED.
- Must have previous experience as an Ellis & Associates Licensed Lifeguard or Instructor.
- Lifeguard Certification or abilityto obtain upon employment.
- Certification in advanced Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) within 1 month of employment and keep certification current. The District provides this training.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Knowledge, experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office and computer applications. Knowledge of online registration program recommended.
- Must have the ability to solve problems as they arise and be able to perform tasks without supervision.
- Must be highly motivated and able to assume a positive and active role in the park, even while working under potentially stressful conditions (hot or cold weather, upset or injured patrons, etc.).
- Must have the ability to be firm with participants (both youth and adults) when necessary, enforce pool rules, and make sound decisions in order to secure the safety and well-being of all pool visitors, facilities, and equipment.
- Must be able to complete required Park District training
Work Environment, Physical Demands and Considerations:- Frequent walking, standing, reaching, bending.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Will be exposed to inclement weather including heat, humidity, cold, rain, snow, ice and wind.
- Ability to work independently without supervision.
- Ability to present ideas and recommendations in a concise manner.
- Ability to understand and carry out verbal and/or written instructions efficiently and effectively and to read and understand printed material.

Hours : May - September ; approximately 40 hours per week, Sunday-Saturday, hours may vary between 5AM-9PM depending on program,
