SUMMARY: Responsible for directing, developing, implementing, and administering the operations strategy and objectives to ensure the achievement of organization's goals and objectives. This position reports to the Program Director and National Science Foundation Logistics and Transportation Managers. Responsible for managing and coordinating the distribution functions of freight movement, including shipments to both domestic and international customers, distribution centers, warehouses, and more. This role ensures the safe, secure, transparent, and efficient transportation of personnel, equipment, and materials across air, land, and sea for the entire United States Antarctic Program.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: As the head of our program management supporting the United States Antarctic Program integrated supply chain, you'll orchestrate the seamless movement of cargo, fuel, and personnel across air, land, and sea for the entire USAP. Your responsibilities span from strategic planning to operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Vision: Develop and execute supply chain strategies, ensuring smooth operations across Port Hueneme, CA, and Punta Arenas, Chile staging locations, and additional nodes as required.
- Transparent Tracking: Provide freight and commodity status on cargo, fuel, and personnel movements, providing real-time visibility to stakeholders.
- Cost Optimization: Analyze costs and market data to create competitive rate offerings, while negotiating service contracts with vendors. Meet revenue and cost containment budget levels.
- Employee Development: Prioritize training and development for our team, setting performance objectives and fostering continuous improvement.
- Efficient Operations: Manage shipment schedules to maximize carrier utilization while resolving any operational issues. Work closely with other departments to ensure that operational service offerings meet customer requirements.
- Customer-Centric Approach: Align company interests with customer needs, identifying enhancement opportunities for efficient shipping and receiving.
- Financial Goals: Collaborate with senior leaders to meet financial objectives, improve customer relations, and enhance profit margins.
- Long-Term Planning: Establish comprehensive goals for performance and growth, ensuring efficient and economical outcomes.
- Establish performance objectives, internal/customer metrics, and continuous improvement opportunities.
Qualifications
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in business, administration, transportation, logistics, or a related field; or a combination of post high school education equivalent experience equal to nine (9) years.
TECHNICAL PROFICIENCY: Proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Outlook, and Word. Knowledge of U.S. transportation, DOT regulations, and import/export regulations. Familiar with logistics and transportation principles, concepts, and methodologies including inventory management, moving product via various modes, cost analysis, and resource optimization. Knowledge of Transportation Management Systems and Warehouse Management Systems. Knowledge of IBM Maximo encouraged.

OTHER: Travel required. Periodic travel to Antarctica, Chile, and other program stations may be required. Must have a valid and current Passport.
JOB SCOPE: Position impacts multiple business units/segments.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office environment with little exposure to excessive noise, dust, temperature, and the like. Extended use of a computer keyboard, viewing of a computer monitor, and the ability to sit for long periods of time. May be exposed to extreme conditions during site visits to include extreme cold weather. May be exposed to odors, dust, dirt, mechanical hazards, high noise levels, and potentially dangerous equipment.
