Description
Bat Biologists responsible for collecting data, research, conducting routine equipment maintenance/testing, and performing basic data entry. This position begins to learn about project management and may be given tasks accordingly. Applicants should have experience with mist-netting, radio-telemetry, and acoustic monitoring of North American bat species as well as leading a site crew, data management, report writing, and client and agency interaction.
Essential Functions Technical
- Successfully complete bat surveys using mist-nets, harp traps, and acoustic detectors.
- Moderate understanding of scientific principles and understanding of various implementation techniques as related to area of focus.
- USFWS and State Wildlife/Plant Permits.
- Collects data and perform data entry.
- Basic wildlife and plant identification skills and assist with various surveys, including but not limited to, bats, birds, insects, fish, mussels, plants, wetlands, etc.
- Experience with alternative energy surveys is a plus.
- Be responsible for the maintenance and care of field data, specimens, and samples.
- Organize and lead field work. Lead, direct, and assist routine equipment maintenance and pack equipment to and from the site.
- Understanding of a Project's goal(s) and deliverable requirements outlined in the SOW. Ability to contribute to drafting deliverables and provide feedback to PM or other Team members with regards to quality of the report and provide recommendation as necessary.
- Ensure the team is following company and safety standards in the field.
- Makes valuable contributions to the team, coordinate team members where appropriate.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts, both verbally and in written form.
- Understands processes and technologies used and suggests improvements as needed or relevant. Critical thinking of our data and scientific processes.
- Other ad hoc duties as assigned.
Project Management
- Understands the scope of work and communicates deviations or issues supervisor accordingly.
- Monitors project deadlines as it relates to deliverables within ones responsibilities.
- Meet designated deadlines. Alert supervisor if unable to meet deadline(s).
- Prepare status updates on assigned tasks. Communicate with team members.
Business Development
- Connect with relevant networks to build a network of professional connections.
- Assist with providing technical support for proposal development.
- Basic understanding of business development practices.
Leadership/Management/Codes of Conduct
- Onsite supervision of team.
- Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, and provide a high quality of customer service.
- Possess a desire for lifelong learning. Continue to expand professional knowledge through training, classes, workshops, conferences, and being mentored.
- Trains newly hired staff and assists with the development of staff through day-to-day interactions and informal mentorship.

- Understands accurate timekeeping and the importance for project performance and budgets. Assist management with monitoring due dates and utilization of resources with the goal of project profitability.

- Interact professionally both internally and externally. Communicate with clients as designated by the PM and assist with coordinating schedules with client.

Requirements
Years of Experience
Licensure/Certification
- Valid Driver's License
- Currently have and able to maintain a valid federal bat permit.
- Obtain and/or maintain current vaccinations, including rabies.
Degree
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in a science related field.
Software Capability
- Familiarity with software such as Microsoft Suite, Google Earth, Adobe, and Ajera.
