Job Summary:The Environment, Health, & Safety, (EHS) and Maintenance Manager will provide leadership for the implementation of EHS standards & procedures, expert technical assistance on EHS issues and will partner with functional leadership on compliance, project management, reporting matters and related EHS management issues. This role will actively participate on the site leadership team in the areas of planning, EHS governance, auditing, management systems, best practice sharing, compliance initiatives and governmental/regulatory reporting. Primary purpose of this position is to grow the safety culture to achieve world class EHS performance. Tactically deploy the strategy and vision for all three sites. Effectively execute strategy to elevate safety and environmental performance to world-class levels.
Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Authorities Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Plan and promote a zero injury safety culture: Provide leadership and coaching at each site to create and sustain a workplace free of hazards, promote safe work behaviors, and foster a lean safety culture that keeps the safety of employees a business value.
- Implement lock out / tag out procedures and program to industry standards.
- Compliance reporting for all environmental, health and safety activities as per Federal (OSHA and EPA), State, and local EHS requirements.
- EHS record keeping and documentation control.
- Provide daily guidance and direction in EHS programs for managers, supervisors and employees to ensure a common and effective approach.
- Develop and communicate strategies to achieve EHS goals.
- Developing and implementing a plan to correct or prevent a loss and audit the plan to ensure effectiveness.
- Proactively Perform EHS audits and implement audit recommendations.
- Assess potential environmental risks and provide mitigation plans to reduce incidents.
- Ensure timely investigation of environmental, health and safety incidents, root cause analysis and the implementation of corrective action plans.
- Work with HR management to manage employee's workers compensation claims and work assignments.
- Management of pollution and waste control programs.
- Evaluate safety of new processes and equipment.
- Conduct or direct testing of air quality, or noise levels to verify compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Develop and deploy training programs to meet regulatory requirements and operational needs.
- Assess EHS performance and collaborate with appropriate personnel to develop recovery/improvement plans.
- Establish goals, objectives, metrics and scorecards to assure the EHS function is effective.
- Coordinate the identification of capital funding needs for EHS projects and assure that spending for these projects meet budget and timing constraints and achieve the desired results.
- Develop, assess and schedule regular emergency drills such as fire evacuation, tornado, and active shooter situations.
- Train forklift and crane operators to qualify for licensing.
- Assist Cleaning & Plating department with chemical inventory, storage, purchase, and other related tasks.
- Manage all maintenance activities, including the management of the TPM program (including updating TPM spreadsheet).
- Works with plant leadership to schedule maintenance personnel to repair and maintain machines according to business needs/priorities.
- Establish goals, objectives, metrics and scorecards to assure the EHS function is effective.

- Bachelor's degree in occupational health & safety management or environmental management, or related field desired; 10+ years progressive EHS experience in a manufacturing environment. Metals manufacturing experience is a plus.
- Must possess a high degree of personal integrity.

- Comprehensive understanding of EHS regulations and requirements in Ohio.
- Excellent communications skills; written, oral, and interpersonal. Team builder with action orientation and the ability to influence staff across the organization.
- Action oriented decision maker.
- Experience supervising, leading, and developing EHS professionals.
- Experience with process improvement tools such as Kaizen a big plus.
- Strong focus on behavioral safety and employee engagement.
- Ability to reconstruct EHS Department from the ground-up.
