Position SummaryTanaq Environmental is seeking a
Staff Environmental Engineer I to support environmental restoration and compliance projects for US Government and commercial clients. This position will support remedial investigation, remedial design, and remedial actions for contaminated sites, and permitting and site inspection compliance activities located throughout the US. The job requires an understanding of basic environmental investigation, remediation, and compliance concepts and the ability to monitor subcontractors to ensure performance of work in accordance with environmental and contractual requirements. The job may also require field oversight of contractors and/or inhouse field crews conducting site investigations and/or remediation of soils, groundwater, surface water, or sediments at emerging contaminants, petroleum, and hazardous waste sites.
This a hybrid remote work role based in Coeur d'Alene, ID or Portland, OR. This role requires an estimated travel of 75% or more annually in the United States depending on project requirements.
Responsibilities- Engineering support of environmental compliance and/or remediation projects.
- Preparation of planning documents, reports, designs, and contract documents.
- Design support for remedial processes to address emerging contaminants (PFAS), petroleum or hazardous waste sites, working under supervision of a Project Engineer.
- Oversight and supervision of environmental cleanup contractors.
- Preparation of subcontractor scopes of work and specifications.
- Solicitation, evaluation, and procurement of subcontractors for investigation or remediation projects.
- Evaluation of contractor performance in accordance with the approved plans.
- Field collection of environmental samples (groundwater, surface water, soil, sediment, soil vapors, waste streams, and ambient air sampling).
- Field team leadership.
- Travel to potentially contaminated sites throughout US to support a wide variety of field activities and contractor oversight.
- Cost estimating and preparation of technical approaches in support of proposals for environmental restoration projects.
Requirements
Required Experience and Skills- Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar role.
- Demonstrated experience in the application of civil and/or environmental engineering principles.
- Strong commitment to site safety and adherence to safety plans.
- Prior experience working on environmental restoration projects is preferred.
- Prior experience working for Department of Defense (DoD) clients preferred.
- Experience with per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) contamination preferred.
- Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Organizational skills and ability to plan and manage multiple tasks.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Professional demeanor with a positive, solution-seeking attitude, team player, and personal responsibility.
- Must possess a valid driver's license with a clear and satisfactory driving record.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team to execute multiple assignments at various locations, providing a consistently high level of quality and accuracy.
- Must be able to obtain clearance to access military bases and other federal government installations to perform job duties.
Education and Training- Minimum bachelor's degree in civil or environmental engineering from an accredited institution; Master's Degree is preferred.
- Preferred Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) license obtained from the National Society of Professional Engineers member state or equivalent.
Physical Requirements- Must be able and willing to travel to visit job sites, attend client meetings, and/or attend professional or technical conferences, and the ability to travel, typically 75% or more annually, in the United States.
- Physically able, with or without accommodation, to work in outdoor environments with uneven terrain and variable outdoor conditions including heat, cold, dust, noise, chemicals, moisture, dryness, and vibration.
- This position requires the ability to perform physical activities associated with field work, including walking long distances, climbing ladders, and carrying equipment. Bending, kneeling, stooping, and reaching are essential functions of the job.
- Position requires frequent (more than 50% of workday) performance of repetitive bending & stooping, standing/walking, power gripping/squeezing (hand tools, levers, etc.), operation of vehicles, and lifting less than 25-50 pounds. Often (25-50% of workday) performing work with arms above shoulder level, and keyboard/mouse operations. Occasionally (10-25% of workday) performing repetitive fine hand movements and lifting 50-75 pounds. Rarely (less than 10% of workday), climbing stairs, using portable ladders, working in an environment of heavy, moving, dangerous equipment, and working in confined spaces.
- Position will require wearing associated personal protective equipment, including, but not limited to safety glasses/goggles, gloves, safety shoes/boots, hard hats/safety helmets, hearing protection, and respirator.
- Good near and far vision (corrected to 20/40) is necessary to accurately measure instruments, record data in field logs, and identify potential hazards in the field.
- Must be able to work in a hybrid remote work arrangement with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and while working on a computer.
