YOUR FUTURE TEAM

As part of TCEQ's Office of Waste, you would contribute to agency efforts to regulate the generation, treatment, storage, and disposal of various wastes and the cleanup of contaminated sites. See details about what we do.

This position is a member of our Waste Permits Division.

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

Experience in reviewing, validating, and/or interpreting groundwater data and/or geotechnical data.
Experience in reviewing, validating, and/or interpreting analytical data from laboratory-generated reports.

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING...

Review and evaluate moderately complex permit applications, reports, certifications and other submittals for waste management, including regulatory classification and status of waste pursuant to state and federal regulations and statutes for the TCEQ.
Conduct geoscientific and other moderately complex technical reviews and evaluations of moderately complex applications, reports and plans pertaining to waste management; determine compliance with applicable laws, rules, technical principles, policies, and procedures; and process to completion.
Provide information concerning authorizations and authorization processes to customers through verbal communication, correspondence, meetings, presentations, and public hearings.
Facilitate or assist with training, mentoring, and providing geoscientific and regulatory expertise to team/section/division and agency staff.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Geoscientist I

Licensed as a Geoscientist by the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists (TBPG).

OR

Five years of full-time geoscientist experience and must be licensed as a Geoscientist by the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists (TBPG) or obtain licensure within twelve (12) months of hire date.

Geoscientist II

Licensed as a Geoscientist by the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists (TBPG) plus two years of full-time geoscientist experience beyond licensure.

OR

Seven years of full-time geoscientist experience and must obtain Geoscientist licensure within twelve (12) months of hire date by the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists (TBPG).

*A graduate degree in a geoscience discipline may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum of two years substitution allowed.

OR

Two years of full-time TCEQ experience as a Geoscientist I

Geoscientist III

Licensed as a Geoscientist by the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists (TBPG) plus four years of full-time geoscientific experience beyond licensure.

OR

Nine years of full-time geoscientist experience and must obtain Geoscientist licensure within twelve (12) months of hire date by the Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists (TBPG).

*A graduate degree in a geoscience discipline may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum of two years substitution allowed.

OR

Two years of full-time TCEQ experience as a Geoscientist II.

CURRENT TCEQ EMPLOYEES

This position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Geoscientist I-III state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Geoscientist I-III series.
