Description Searching for a Full-time Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3) Engineer to support surface ship topside design. This engineering position supports Naval fleet readiness, ship modernization, and new ship design.
Primary Responsibilities
As a Gibbs and Cox E3 Engineer, is responsible for minimizing electromagnetics effects that may degrade the operational capability of equipment, systems, and platforms within their electromagnetic environments (EME). The engineer will analyze ship antenna and topside design configurations with the goal of preventing electromagnetics from interfering with their ability to function as designed. This position is 3 days per week onsite in Dahlgren, VA and has the potential for up to 2 days remote work.
The Engineer will implement design practices that facilitate compliance with E3 requirements at all system levels; analyze system and equipment electromagnetic environments to include grounding, coupling and shielding; plan requirements verification and testing and conduct compliance testing; troubleshoot failures and equipment outages and recommend solutions to problems and issues; develop, modify, sustain and enforce related policy as well as oversee operations and maintenance of lab equipment and tools.
- Assists in developing and documenting requirements for various communication, sensor, electronic warfare and other electromagnetic systems and components.
- Performs analysis to predict component performance to established requirements.
- Conducts tests to validate performance of designs to requirements. Collects data on supplier and partner performance to ensure compliance to requirements.
- Able to establish, design and verify TEMPEST requirements using NACSEM 5100
- Able to generate Power Quality test procedures and test reports.
- Able to set up and implement Power Quality testing and verification using MIL-STD-704 and related technical standards.
- Able to establish, design and verify DO-160 requirements.
- Able to generate DO-160 test procedures and test reports.
- Able to set up and implement DO-160 testing and verification.
- Able to evaluate schedules to ensure inclusion of Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)/Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) requirements, design and verification tasks using Microsoft Project.
- Provides support to products throughout their lifecycle.
- Supports project management by gathering project status data.

Basic Qualifications
Candidates must have a minimum of 5 years of related work experience working in and with E3 Technical standards.
- Experience performing electronic analyses for related systems (i.e. sensors, radar, communications, etc.) operating in the terrestrial, airborne, maritime and space environments.
- Evaluate system designs against technical standards and system drawings; able to flow system requirements to Subsystem specifications and drawings.
- Provide EMI (Electromagnetic interference) guidance to internal/external customers and vendors.
- Able to generate Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC)/Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) control plans, test procedures and test reports; set up and conduct RF Emissions and Susceptibility testing against MIL-STD-464, MIL-STD-461 and related technical standards using RF instruments such as signal generators, RF amplifiers, spectrum analyzers, antennas, probes and ESD guns.
- U.S. Citizenship and Active Secret Security Clearance are required.
- Ability to write clear, concise, and easily readable technical correspondence to document reviews of technical recommendations following technical reviews and collating of comments.
- Articulate in oral and written presentations; possess high organizational skills and the ability to multi-task to meet deadlines.
- Experience working dynamic programs with fluctuating scope and integrated coordination of multiple engineering disciplines.
- Possess an understanding of US Navy system architecture across logical, functional, hardware, software components.
- Possess operational knowledge of US Navy combatants, weapon systems, and threats.
Additionally, must have strong interpersonal skills and be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with the team and customers. Travel may be up required to 10 % of time. Two (2) years experience' with Microsoft Office Suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is preferred. A formal degree or the combination of education, technical certifications, training or work/military experience supporting engineering or analysis experience is always a plus.
Preferred Qualifications
- B.S. or Advanced Degree in engineering, analysis, or related discipline desired but not required and 8+ years of relevant experience.
- International Association for Radio, Telecommunications and Electromagnetics (iNARTE) Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Engineer Certification
- Certified TEMPEST Professional Level II (CTP-II) Certification190780
- Experience with the operation and employment of Navy vessels
- Knowledge of associated MIL Standards for E3
- Experience in Aerospace & Defense Industry and/or the military
- Engineering experience with EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility), EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) or E3 (Electromagnetic Environmental Effects)
- Experience in a role that required strong written and verbal skills
- Demonstrated a strong work ethic and sense of urgency for completing assigned work with a history of meeting commitments
- Team player, able to work in a collaborative environment

Pay Range: Pay Range $101,400.00 - $183,300.00
