Where we are located: Our corporate headquarters is in Adrian, Michigan, and we have manufacturing facilities located in Hopkinsville, Kentucky; Shelbyville, Indiana; and Monterrey, Mexico. This position could potentially be housed in any of our locations.
What the position entails: The Director of CI & Sustainability develops and drives the CI & Sustainability Vision / Roadmap for the organization. Champions and promotes Lean, Six Sigma, Problem Solving, and Waste Reduction methodologies as a means to drive Operational Excellence company-wide. Ensures robust focus across the organization on improving efficiency, solving internal & external challenges, and reducing cost. Develops and maintains standard metrics, templates, training, project lists, cost saving worksheets, etc. Establishes, promotes, and upholds the Sustainability strategy and ensures projects are in place to move the needle in Sustainability performance.
Major Responsibilities: - Establishes annual savings and performance goals for each facility and Corporate in the areas of CI & Sustainability. Establishes and directs progress towards both short & long term goals.
- Directs Sustainability efforts across the company and monitors progress for energy use reduction, energy cost savings, and other measures. Researches and recommends new or improved practices such as recycling, gas / energy reduction, water preservation, etc. Ensures activity aligns with expectations of AJI, customers, and internally.
- Ensures development and execution of the training plan needed to create a cadre of experts in areas of Lean, Six Sigma & Sustainability. Promotes the standard 5S program to improve Safety across the organization.
- Champions the organization in identifying and reducing non value-added activities and key opportunities for improvement through current and future state value stream maps.
- Summarizes and reports on collective cost saving projects & overall progress in Sustainability; assists in compiling cost savings and project reports.
- Assists site leadership teams in identifying key opportunities that utilize Lean, Six Sigma, Waste Reduction, and Problem Solving to drive improved performance operationally & in Sustainability.
- Promotes cross-functional Kaizen events with a focus on rapid improvement, hands-on involvement, and development of future leaders.
- Functions as a change agent in the cultural shift to ensure CI & Sustainability become part of our values instead of programs.
- Assists Plant CI Leaders in mentoring and coaching project leaders, assisting them with proper tool usage, following the appropriate process (i.e. DMAIC), and verification of improvements.
- Ability to travel a minimum of 40% to support plants and Corporate locations.
- Works as liaison with customers and suppliers to extend CI & Sustainability practices / improvements throughout the supply chain. Promotes activity with key customers & suppliers in the extended value stream and ensures timely/accurate reporting of key metrics and activities as required in customer / supplier surveys.
- Supports and manages Plant CI Leaders to achieve annual savings and performance goals.
- Develops, administers and maintains CI & Sustainability assessment process, criteria and documents.
- Actively supports and manages according to the Brazeway Code of Conduct (Process Based Leadership, 10 Commitments and 8 People Principles).
What a candidate must have to be qualified for the role:- Bachelor's degree in engineering preferred
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt and/or Lean Certification
- 5 years' experience in a manufacturing environment with hands-on implementation of Lean and Six Sigma
- Analytical ability to assess and resolve technical problems
- Excellent communication and people skills
- Strong commitment to a team environment
- Ability to travel to support plants, customer, and suppliers in the US and Mexico
- Prior experience in Sustainability (reporting, standards, and improvement) preferred
- Bi-lingual (Spanish) preferred
