Join us in making a positive impact as an
Agent Assistant for our 4-H and Master Gardener programs.The Agent Assistant will be responsible for implementing and coordinating the goals and objectives of the 4-H Youth program for the Mobile County Extension Office. The Agent Assistant will also assist in preparing curriculum, implementing youth related programs and working directly with youth activities. The Agent Assistant will assist and/or work with the County Extension Coordinator and 4-H Youth Development Coordinator in activities that benefit the youth of the counties. The Agent Assistant will also provide support to the Alabama Master Gardener program in order to increase the availability of home horticulture information through qualified volunteers and to extend the land grant mission across Alabama.

Essential Functions - Posses a genuine passion for engaging with youth aged 5-19 on a wide range of topics.
- Demonstrate a sincere enthusiasm for collaborating with volunteers and professional staff in an educational environment, showcasing skills in recruiting, training, and motivating volunteers while fostering positive self-esteem, decision-making, and leadership abilities.
- Ability to follow instructions with minimal supervision, a readiness to align with the philosophy and standards of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System, and access to reliable transportation are essential.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills are a must, along with proficiency in using a personal computer and software applications such as Microsoft Word and Access.
- Must have good organizational skills to efficiently and accurately maintain records of youth education sessions and progress, as well as follow the guidelines and policies of the Alabama Cooperative Extension System.
- Assist with organizing and coordinating Alabama Master Gardener classes, including scheduling, materials preparation, and participant support.
- Coordinate and manage volunteer opportunities for Master Gardeners, ensuring alignment with local projects, events, and community needs.
- Provide training and assistance with inputting volunteer hours into the Master Gardener system and tracking progress toward certification.
- Organize and manage speaker requests from community groups, gardening clubs, and other organizations, ensuring alignment with the educational mission of the Alabama Master Gardener Program.
- Attend and participate in both Mobile County Master Gardener General and Board meetings monthly, contributing to discussions and helping to implement program initiatives.
- Capture photos and create engaging social media posts to promote the Alabama Master Gardener Program and its events, raising awareness and increasing community engagement.
- Support the promotion of Master Gardener programs, workshops, and events through various channels, including local media, community organizations, and digital platforms.
- Assist with the set-up and breakdown of events, workshops, and community outreach activities, ensuring smooth operations and a positive participant experience.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications Level I: High school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of experience in the organization and/or presentation of pre-designed educational programs/services, customer service, administrative support/clerical or related experience.
Level II: High school diploma or equivalent plus 6 years of experience in the organization and/or presentation of pre-designed educational programs/services, customer service, administrative support/clerical or related experience.
Substitutions allowed for Experience:Degrees accepted in lieu of experience, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
