ROLE SUMMARY As the Automation & Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for the integration of new construction projects for renewable energy power plants (mainly, BESS/Solar/Hybrid/Substation). You will be part of a team dedicated to the delivery of Digital/Automation solutions to our customers. Your role will be focused on specific projects assigned and you will provide support throughout the life of the project, from estimation, through design/engineering, commissioning, and until project close out. The role includes after-sales support related to warranty claims or contracted maintenance services. You will be leading the delivery of SunGrid products as well as 3rd party systems. The quality of the project and time to market being a differentiator of our company, you will use your experience in utility scale power plant automation, organizational skills, and high-level of proactivity to ensure customer satisfaction and seamless coordination with all stakeholders. The scope encompasses the support of the following products: automation/logic controllers, BESS EMS, HMI/SCADA, Industrial Networking, IoT solutions, Metering/IED connectivity, etc. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION & RESPONSIBILITIES The role requires performing the following duties: Power plants/BESS construction projects: Design and engineering of the automation system (instrumentation, control, Industrial networks, automation logic, SCADA systems, etc.) for BESS systems and hybrid plants. Produce automation engineering deliverables: automation logic, control logic diagrams, automation architecture, SCADA point lists, data flows. Perform and/or coordinate hands-on system configuration and troubleshooting for: Automation/Instrumentation devices SCADA applications & infrastructure Industrial communications & networks Development of automation system testing and commissioning steps. Develop and track commissioning plan and schedule. Lead the execution of the automation systems commissioning (FAT, cold/hot commissioning, SAT) with the support of the electrical engineering team with a blend of remote and on-site activities. Coordinate all activities with internal stakeholders and vendor/contractors. Track automation systems commissioning issues and lead them to resolution. With the support of the cybersecurity SME, ensure application of cybersecurity best practices and verification at project completion. Monitor and check compliance at project hand-off with customer, grid operator, TSO/ISO market protocols, and applicable regulation (e.g. NERC, NERC CIP). Responsible for collecting and producing commissioning documentation to ensure best in class Quality Control. Coordinate and/or deliver automation solutions training. Support O&M team in the transition phase of the project to enable them to take over the operation. Contribute to internal process improvement to ensure time and quality delivery. Support efforts of project & technology standardization to optimize projects. Work on incidents and change management requests to support power plant maintenance. Provide 24/7 support as an escalation for critical incidents on an on-call duty rotation. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor degree in Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of relevant Automation/control systems work experience. Minimum of 2 years of experience in the power/utility/renewables industry. Advanced proficiency in Automation system configuration: PLC, SEL RTAC, Metering, IEDs, etc. Advanced proficiency in industrial communications: Modbus, DNP3, OPC-UA, MQTT, etc. Advanced proficiency in SCADA platforms: SEL HMI, Ignition, etc. Demonstrated troubleshooting skills and a rigorous approach to problem solving. Ability to produce and review technical documentation (e.g. commissioning reports, troubleshooting guide, incident report). Good knowledge of IT hardware and middleware to run SCADA systems and OT applications: Linux/Windows OS, SQL DB, Server hardware. Proficient in Industrial networks communications and systems design & configuration (switches, Eth/FO converters, packet analysis tools, etc.). Proficient in: Microsoft Word, Excel use of Excel Macro, Visio, Power Point. Ability to be on 24/7 on-call rotation and exceptionally work off hours as needed. Driver’s License in the U.S. Must be able to clear a 7 year background check. WILL BE HIGHLY REGARDED: Experience with power plant integration in main North American markets: ERCOT, CAISO, NYISO, NE-ISO, IESO, etc. Experience in BESS Control systems operation/design/implementation. Experience in Microgrid control systems. Basic Programming skills: C, C++, Java, REST APIs, etc. Networking certification/training.
