Wärtsilä Energy Storage Business is looking for a Engineering Manager - Printed Circuit Board Design , to lead the hardware design of our Battery Management System (BMS). The role will be part of the Hardware Engineering team. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter that can work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team. The candidate should thrive in a fast paced, constantly changing environment while the industry and company go through substantial growth. The preferred location for this position is Herndon, VA. Responsibilities • Lead the hardware design of Battery Management System (BMS) for energy storage application through full product lifecycle from concept to production release. • Provide overall leadership and administrative management for personnel which includes defining roles and responsibilities, conducting performance appraisals, participating in salary planning, promoting professional growth through timely performance feedback, coaching, and counseling, among other leadership responsibilities. • Build and grow the team of PCB design engineers, and PCB testing engineers. • Lead the development of system specifications, PCB component selection and layout. • Evaluate product and system designs and configurations for compliance to relevant industry standards. • Provide leadership with high integrity and oversight of processes protecting intellectual property, export controlled, and strategic technology. • Lead lab testing, field testing and commissioning activities. • Lead the development of product documentation such as manuals, application notes, and technical specifications. • Collaborate in a team environment and/or take charge of opportunities to develop optimal solutions for customers and product development programs. Requirements • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering required; graduate degree highly preferred. • A minimum of 5 years of direct supervisory experience. • 10 years of PCB hardware development experience (analog, digital, and mixed domain design). • Experience laying out PCBA's in Altium Designer or similar tool is a big plus. • Proficient with the design of industrial communication standards such as CAN, Ethernet, I2C, etc. • Proficient with standard electronic lab equipment - oscilloscopes, meters, power supplies, etc. • Experience working with high voltage systems (1500VDC) and high voltage circuit design is a plus. • Experience with power systems, energy storage and renewable energy is a plus. • Ability to lead the design of electrical circuits for LV, MV, and DC applications ensuring compliance to common design standards. • Working knowledge of industrial control philosophies and communication protocols. • Maintain positive working relationships with customers, peers, subordinates, vendors, shop and office in a fast-paced environment. • Excellent communication skills. • Team player attitude internally and externally. • Willing to travel 20% of the time.
