Civiltech Engineering, Inc. is seeking a qualified and client-focused candidate to join our growing team of engineers, wetland scientists, landscape architects, and urban designers at our Chicago Loop office. Our work includes implementing nature-led and nature-based solutions across our planning, design, and construction services with a focus on natural resource restoration, sustainability, green infrastructure, biotechnologies, and enhanced Best Management Practices. The Position We are looking for a detail-oriented engineer who shares a passion for implementing nature-led and nature-based designs. Day-to-day responsibilities will include: Executing project tasks and permit application preparations to meet deadlines and client expectations. Interpreting regulations for project design and permitting pathway determination. Participating in meetings with clients, stakeholders, and contractors. Conducting wetland delineations and assessments. Conducting wildlife habitat assessments, rare plant surveys, and/or vegetation maintenance and monitoring. Developing design details, exposure to construction document plan sets and design details, specification writing, and cost estimating. Desire to work collaboratively in a team setting to generate and share design ideas. Working independently as well as closely with other design professionals including landscape architects, urban designers, planners, engineers, and surveyors to develop design solutions at a fast pace. The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications: A bachelor’s degree, or higher, in Civil, Environmental, or Ecological Engineering with an interest in Nature-based Solutions. 0-5 years of experience in environmental consulting services, including exposure to or experience with performing and managing natural resource evaluations, local, state, and federal permitting, environmental monitoring, wetland delineations, and biological assessments. Knowledge of hydric soils, wetlands, ecological restoration, stormwater, erosion control, and/or wildlife assessments a plus. Prior experience with or exposure to utility, transportation, and renewable energy projects as well as knowledge of the following environmental permit programs: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers CWA Sections 404/401 and RHA Section 10; NEPA; state and local wetlands and natural resource permitting programs is also desirable, but not required. Basic knowledge of ArcGIS/AutoCAD/MicroStation is desirable. Working knowledge of data collection methods (e.g., GPS). Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Capacity to problem-solve creatively and bring fresh ideas forward. Detail-oriented design approach with a desire to see projects through to final construction. Demonstrates good professional judgment, consistency, strong attention to detail, and background of high-quality work products. Willingness to travel locally and regionally.
