Opportunity Summary The Operations and Electrical Technician is responsible for the safe, efficient, and reliable operation and maintenance of the power plant's electrical and mechanical systems. This role involves performing preventative and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting electrical and control systems, and supporting plant operations to maximize performance and sustainability. Primary Duties Operations Oversee and support daily plant operations, including scheduling and manpower allocation, to ensure efficient and reliable power generation. Ensure accurate and timely documentation of key operational data, including electrical output, emissions, fuel and water consumption, and heat rates. Review operational logs and records to verify compliance with tag-out procedures, equipment status, and administrative systems. Assist in maintaining and updating plant operating manuals, technical references, diagrams, and maintenance records. Safeguard plant safety by adhering to tagging procedures and recording maintenance activities per regulatory and environmental standards. Operate generators and auxiliary systems, performing safe startup and shutdown procedures while monitoring critical indicators and systems. Prepare plant statistical reports and contribute to the development of O&M capital budgets, configuration drawings, databases, and maintenance procedures. Safely operate equipment such as vehicles, cranes, hoists, and welding tools, following established safety practices and protocols. Coordinate fuel transfers and receipts for plant operations as needed. Ensure clear and effective communication during shift changes and project handovers to maintain operational continuity. Electrical Analyze and recommend strategies to optimize thermal and electrical efficiency and outputs. Administer and maintain the plant's predictive maintenance program, collecting and analyzing data to evaluate performance and ensure reliability. Perform calibration, testing, and repair of instrumentation, including environmental protection and monitoring systems. Execute electrical maintenance tasks such as motor wiring, disconnects, thermocouple replacements, and fuse servicing. Inspect, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and install various pneumatic, electric, and electronic control instruments in the plant. Install, maintain, and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, microprocessor, and electronic sensing and control systems. Conduct installation, testing, maintenance, and replacement of electrical components, including motors, generators, transformers, circuit breakers, batteries, and other critical plant systems. Perform internal and external switching and tagging for mechanical and electrical systems to ensure safety during maintenance and operations. Complete mechanical maintenance tasks such as incidental welding, brazing, cutting, and complex repairs following regulatory codes and standards. Read and interpret blueprints, wiring, and schematic diagrams for maintenance and troubleshooting activities. Maintain and update station logs and records, documenting maintenance, outages, and requisitioning plant parts or equipment following established protocols. Working Relationships The Operations & Electrical Technician reports to the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Manager and cooperates with all plant personnel. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions Industrial plant environment. Physical requirements include the ability to reach, climb, walk, and stoop throughout the workday, as well as the possibility of standing for extended periods of time, stair and ladder climbing and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Protective equipment must be worn in the performance of some duties (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high voltage protective equipment, etc.). Work with hazardous materials may be required. Fitness for Duty All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening and post-employment random drug screening. Work Schedule Regular scheduled work week is based on a 10-hour rotating shift. Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, workload and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required. Compensation Initial starting compensation will range from $28.00 to $31.00 per hour. Job Qualifications Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school is required. An associate degree in a technical field is desirable. Prior experience as an O&M Technician, Power Plant Technician, or in a similar position within an operating or generating plant. Experience in electric generating equipment and operations, particularly in the repair and maintenance of aeroderivative gas turbines and diesel generators. Demonstrate expertise in operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting industrial equipment. This includes familiarity with instrumentation, control systems, and mechanical components. Strong understanding of regulatory requirements and environmental standards relevant to plant operations is essential. This ensures adherence to safety protocols and legal obligations. Proven ability to identify, analyze, and resolve complex technical issues efficiently. They should also demonstrate a proactive approach to preventive maintenance and continuous improvement. Effective communication skills and the ability to collaborate with diverse teams, including management, technicians, and external stakeholders, fostering a culture of safety, cooperation, and shared goals. Willingness to learn and adapt. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license at all times.
