Under general supervision, is responsible for performing inspectional work and enforcing compliance for new construction, remodeling, alterations, repairs, moving, or demolition of structures to ensure compliance with the City adopted building codes, zoning ordinances, and other related City ordinances. Alamo St., San Antonio, TX (78204) Work Hours 7:45 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., Monday - Friday Essential Duties Conducts inspections to ensure proposed construction conforms to the International Building Code, International Residential Code, International Energy Conservation Code and the Unified Development Code relating to building construction, alteration, and repair. Discuss repairs, alterations, and new construction with owners and contractors; explains and interprets building codes and regulations. Issues verbal or written orders for correction of defects in materials, workmanship, and other violations of codes and ordinances. Documents inspection results and investigations in laptop or desktop computer using land development software. Responds to questions by phone pertaining to building related codes, zoning, and the Unified Development Code. Inspectional work requires communication by a variety of methods and may include sitting, standing, reaching, walking, twisting, crawling, kneeling, climbing ladders of any height and may lift/carry up to 50 pounds at work sites. Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required. Minimum Requirements High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency) Four (4) years of experience in the building trade Valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License Must obtain International Code Council (ICC) certification as a Building Inspector within one (1) year of employment Preferred Qualifications Residential and commercial building construction experience. ICC Certifications or obtain at least one certification within six (6) months of employment. Ability to learn City Ordinances relating to zoning and building construction. Ability to properly interpret and apply all applicable related codes. Ability to read blue prints and specifications. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the general public.
