Position Summary: Founded in 1983, the Randall Davey Audubon Center & Sanctuary (RDAC) is a non-profit education center and wildlife sanctuary and the New Mexico State Office of the National Audubon Society. Located in Santa Fe, New Mexico, RDAC encompasses 135 acres of striking landscapes and wildlife. Bounded by thousands of acres of National Forest and Santa Fe River Watershed land, the Center & Sanctuary provides a peaceful sanctuary for plants, animals, and our visitors. Ranging from common to rare, approximately 130 species of birds can be found in or over the various ecosystems of this sanctuary. The Senior Facilities Assistant is responsible for maintenance of the buildings, grounds, equipment, and vehicles at the RDAC. This position will collaborate with staff on facilities use and planning, manage and improve the site for wildlife with Center Director and volunteers and organize and oversee all work projects in an efficient, safe and productive manner that may involve RDAC volunteers with specific tasks as it relates to the operations of the Center specifically gardening, building and grounds upkeep, trails maintenance and other tasks. The Senior Facilities Assistant will regularly interact with diverse populations of visitors from around the world. This is an on-site position based in Audubon Southwest – State Office Randall Davey Center & Sanctuary, with a regular schedule of Tuesday through Saturday from 8am – 4pm 40hrs per week. Compensation: $17.50 - $19.50 / hour Essential Functions: Maintain buildings and grounds, including but not limited to upkeep of lawns, gardens, walkways, parking lots, trails, and buildings. Maintain water/irrigation, plumbing and electrical systems. Including but not limited to light repairs, light construction, painting, light cleaning, equipment maintenance and repair. Maintenance of Center and State Office vehicles. Purchase of maintenance supplies and equipment. Assist with weekend or after-hours meetings, weddings and other events that use the facilities, and engage with visitors as appropriate. Arrange for outside contractors, including soliciting bids, completing contractor paperwork, supervising contractor work, approving, and submitting invoices for payment, etc. Submit annual and periodic maintenance budget requests to Center Director, including purchasing of new or additional equipment and supplies. Partner with RDAC staff on the sustainable use and future planning for the Center’s facilities. Perform a variety of housekeeping and landscaping duties to maintain facilities in a green friendly, safe, and sanitary condition. Supervise and work with volunteers on upkeep and enhancement of the buildings and grounds. Greet visitors, volunteers, and event guests with a positive, welcoming attitude. Oversee and work with volunteers on upkeep and enhancement of the buildings and grounds. Maintain relations with core contractors (cleaning, plumbing, electrical, builders, water, security). Maintain contacts with essential city, county and federal (i.e. Forest Service) officials, and other partner NGO’s. Use of hand tools, lawn mowers, water pumps, water systems, power equipment will be required. Qualifications and Experience: High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. An equivalent combination of education and experience will also be considered. Two plus years’ experience with building and facilities maintenance, preferably at a large facility. Excellent interpersonal/communication skills required. Previous hospitality or guest service-related experience a plus. Must be self-motivated, energetic, team player with excellent interpersonal skills. Knowledge of basic maintenance, repair, and safety procedures, including plumbing, electrical, and construction. Other craft skills are highly desirable. Knowledge and ability to use appropriate safety equipment. Must have a valid NM driver’s license. Interest in nature, historic preservation, education, working outdoors and working with volunteers is desirable. Ability to calmly adapt to unexpected changes in priorities and in potentially stressful situations. Willingness to combine manual labor with administrative duties. Work experience in facility maintenance, landscape maintenance, hospitality, and customer service-related industries helpful. CPR certified with basic first aid skills and training desirable. Will provide training if necessary. Able to lift up to 60 lbs., operate various tools, machinery, and other equipment, walk trails on varying terrain with or without accommodation.
