Duties, Responsibilities & Other We are seeking a Professional Engineer (PE) to join our Alternative Energy team as a valuable member in Photovoltaic (PV) and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects. The successful candidate will provide technical expertise, guidance, and support to the Design Engineering team, contributing to distributed generation (DG) and utility-scale environments. This role demands expertise in electrical infrastructure, SCADA, protective relaying, controls, and a deep understanding of national codes, including NEC and NESC. Design phase lead for all phases of solar and energy storage development & construction. Review electrical designs throughout project development, design, and construction phases, conduct advanced electrical modeling, and review equipment test reports and shop drawings. Provide priorities of work, feedback on initiatives, and establish new focus areas to drive continuous improvement. Position Requirements: Must be a Professional Electrical Engineer with significant experience in PV and BESS projects. Must have expertise in electrical infrastructure, SCADA, protective relaying, and controls. Strong understanding of national codes, including NEC and NESC. Proven leadership skills with the ability to mentor and guide junior engineering team members. Innovative thinking and a collaborative mindset. Preferred experience: Familiarity with power generation, plant design, environmental compliance, and multi-discipline industrial projects. Experience working on decarbonization design efforts through state-of-the-art technologies in renewable energy, carbon capture, and hydrogen power. Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in Engineering. Master's degree preferred. 6 - 10 years of professional experience. PE Required. Experience in planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring projects involving both overhead and underground engineering systems. Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position. Performance Expectations Submit for approval and deliver timely annual Employee Performance Appraisals for assigned staff. Train adequate backup personnel to support your role in your absence. Comply with all KCI policies and procedures. Ensure projects fulfill ISO compliance requirements. Manage work routine of all assigned staff and assign job activities as required. Complete other duties as required/assigned. Achieve or exceed budgeted individual utilization target (75%-80% typical). Attend bi-weekly meetings with project team on all projects/tasks. Chart and provide task performance results. Complete all tasks on time and within budget while fully meeting the scope. Consult and coordinate with other practices and sub-consultants as required. Operate within specified budget parameters. Prepare interpractice agreements and/or outside requests as required. Provide technical project and staff oversight. Serve as task manager on select projects. Compare field data to base plan. Conduct site visits and gather data, including measurements, sketches, notes, and photographs as needed. Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates for review and approval. Prepare preliminary concept designs and submit for approval. Read and interpret technical documents needed for performance of job. Review and approve shop drawings. Complete Annual Individual Training Program.
