EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO SUPPLEMENT THE EXISTING EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT EAST JEFFERSON VACANCY WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL AFFAIRS. This employment list will also be used for future EAST AND WEST Jefferson vacancies in this Department as they occur. Under general supervision, performs professional environmental work involving the enforcement of environmental or water pollution control laws and implementing programs and policy. Employee applies the techniques and principles of the appropriate science to the implementation of the department's Industrial Pretreatment Program or the activities of the department's Stormwater Management Program. Conducts industrial/commercial and other site inspections and gathers data, including the collection of field samples, to ensure compliance with local, state and federal environmental regulations. Employee must be available to work weekends, nights, and holidays as needed on short notice based upon the need of service. This position is designated as Secondary Essential Duty and is subject to report for duty within twenty-four (24) hours upon receiving notification from the Director, which notification will be delivered after the emergency event at the discretion of the Director. Position requires driving of a Parish vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference. For the current vacancy in the Stormwater Program, duties include working as part of a team to prepare and present various outreach and educational components of the program and to conduct investigations in response to hazardous incidents and citizen complaints of illegal dumping into the storm drainage system. The Stormwater program has an extensive educational component which involves making presentations, as a team, to school groups. Minimum Qualifications: Current employment and permanent civil service status in the class of Environmental Quality Technician I. OR Possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with at least eighteen (18) credit hours in one, or in any combination of, the following fields: Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Urban Planning, Geology, Geography, or a closely related field. (Proof of education is required). Related education, experience, and/or professional certification(s) above and beyond the minimum qualifications will be required for consideration of an entrance salary above the minimum rate. (ENTRANCE AND PROMOTIONAL) The examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof.
