A Typical Day in the Life… COPAL is hiring two full-time Workforce Development Advisors for the offices of Rochester and Mankato, respectively. A typical day as COPAL’s Workforce Development Advisor provides an opportunity to join COPAL’s Worker Center efforts toward building a Minnesota Latine economic power through worker’s rights, leadership development, career exploration and job placement. Responsibilities will include the following: Recruiting volunteers & interns to support job search and skill-teaching activities. Becoming proficient in contract requirements and supporting the achievement of programmatic outcomes. Facilitating scheduled weekly in-person and virtual intake events. Entering data into the air table and Workforce One databases. Creating physical files for members seeking to join the worker's center. Ensuring records meet minimum programmatic expectations. Conducting members' skill assessments and referring them for internal support services. Developing and delivering workshops on resume writing, interview skills, and job search strategies—tailoring content to meet the needs of rural communities. Supporting individuals in using technology for job searches, online training, and communication. Providing personalized career guidance and assistance in developing action plans for career advancement. Providing interpretation support as needed. Supporting monthly orientations so members become acquainted with COPAL’s and the worker center's mission and vision. Facilitating communication between employers and job seekers. Facilitating job retentionsupport activities. Building relationships with service providers, the government, the chamber of commerce, the private sector, and others to coordinate workforce development activities. Collaborating with local employers to understand their workforce needs and advocating for the inclusion of bilingual candidates. Partnering with local schools, universities, and community colleges to support new youth professionals entering the workforce. Assisting in the design and implementation of workforce development programs for rural communities. Monitoring program outcomes and evaluating effectiveness. Building a directory of 15 local businesses per year. Helping program users identify employment options that match their job interests. Participating in and organizing job fairs. Scheduling and following up on interviews with prospective employers. Exploring employment and/or career opportunities in the green or renewable energy industries in the area to build relationships, explore training, and job opportunities for our community. Co-collaborating in maintaining a database of potential employers in various industries. Working with other staff to plan and execute cross-organizational events, grassroots fundraising and new member cultivation, communications plans, digital outreach plans, training, and other issue campaign actions. Who You Are You have at least 2 years of relevant experience. You demonstrate knowledge of labor market trends, best practices, and employer needs. You have experience with grant and contract compliance. You are fluent in both the Spanish and English languages. You are accountable with a proven track record of delivering and completing tasks on time. You have experience initiating conversations with community members about their stories, hopes, fears, and challenges, and you are willing to be bold in conversations with strangers and volunteers. You have experience facilitating meetings, training, and/or group gatherings that move people to action. You are highly attentive to detail. You demonstrate computer literacy and have experience with MS Office Suite. You possess excellent written and oral communication skills. You are a relational leader and team player with the ability to work with a broad team of staff and grassroots leaders, work well with others in a coalition setting, and motivate diverse groups of people. You can manage time effectively and efficiently. You demonstrate a commitment to economic, racial, and gender justice and have a commitment to progressive political change. You enthusiastically promote COPAL’s goals, embrace the Jemez principles for participatory democracy organizing, and have a deep investment in our shared agenda for change. You can travel to sites within a 60-mile radius of the office. You have a valid driver’s license, access to reliable transportation, and the ability to meet COPAL’s driving record requirements.
