Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens seeks a Curator . Stan Hywet Hall & Gardens is seeking a passionate and experienced Curator to join our dedicated team. As the steward of our extensive and diverse collection, the Curator will play a crucial role in preserving and interpreting the rich history of the estate. The Curator’s responsibilities will include overseeing the care, preservation, and accessibility of Stan Hywet’s collection, which encompasses historic architecture, furnishings, decorative arts, agricultural equipment, and archival materials. The Curator will ensure that our collections are managed according to the highest professional standards, while also serving as an ambassador and expert resource for the public, scholars, and the broader community. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Oversee all aspects and responsibilities entrusted to the Curator, including preservation, conservation, restoration, security, storage, collections management, cataloging, museum exhibition and interpretation, and ongoing artifact and/or historical research. Maintain and monitor all aspects of professional and ethical collections management tasks, including acquisitions, accessions, loans, deaccessions, artifact values, access and security, etc. Supervise the development and implementation of the physical/visual interpretation of the historic structures and its historic interiors in partnership with Archivist, including arrangement and physical appearance. Plan, develop, propose, and assist with implementation of appropriate conservation and restoration projects in coordination with the Project Manager. Develop, implement and oversee the multi-year exhibit plan. Support and produce research, organization, and implementation of the collection narrative displays and collection-based exhibitions. Is responsible for the presentation, interpretation, and development of exhibitions from the collection and outside sources; coordinates traveling exhibitions from other institutions, including organizing original loan and collection exhibitions for presentation at and traveling. In collaboration with the fund development department participates in donor cultivation and developing grant proposals. Oversee the maintenance of curatorial data in the computerized collections management system and initiate data entry for curatorial narrative displays and collection-based exhibitions. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Museum Studies, History, Anthropology, Public History, or Art History, or equivalent experience. Master's degree preferred. Minimum of 7 years of experience in a museum or cultural institution, with a proven track record of curatorial leadership. Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office Suite, collections management software, and web applications. Excellent research, analytical, organizational, and writing skills. A deep understanding of current technical and practical museum issues. A passion for history and material culture, coupled with strong leadership skills.
