BIOFerm, a Madison, WI based renewable energy company, is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Project Accountant to join our dynamic team. The Project Accountant will support the organization throughout the business and project life cycle by monitoring project budgets, meticulously tracking and allocating expenditures, and providing insightful financial reporting. Working closely with the Vice President of Finance, this role offers the opportunity to gain experience in a rapidly growing industry while working on projects that contribute to a cleaner tomorrow. Essential Job Functions: Ensure accurate data entry and proper allocation of expenditures to specific projects and general ledger accounts Prepare and analyze various financial reports, including cost reports, variance reports, and project profitability analyses Assist project managers with financial planning and cost control strategies Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure adherence to company policies and procedures Process vendor invoices and manage subcontractor payments in a timely and accurate manner Develop and improve upon financial modeling, forecasting tools, and proforma templates to aid in decision-making process Assist with regulatory compliance in various jurisdictions, including sales, use, payroll, and income taxes Partner with external accounting firms to register, prepare, and file necessary tax returns Uphold internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure regulatory compliance Timely and accurately perform various month-end functions; including preparation/review of reconciliations and financial reports in accordance with GAAP Prepare other reporting as needed, including project-specific sub-reports, labor studies, cash flows, and ad hoc projections Perform other special projects and duties as assigned Competencies & Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance Minimum 2 years of accounting/finance experience, preferably in the engineering, construction, or renewable energy industries CPA or CMA certification is desirable, though not required Strong understanding of cost accounting methods and GAAP accounting principles Proficient computer literacy, including Microsoft Office programs and accounting/ERP systems (experience with Acumatica ERP is preferred, though not required) Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills Self-starter, motivated to learn, and enthusiastic about continuous improvement Excellent organizational, time management, research, and reporting skills in a fast-paced environment Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to explain complex accounting and tax concepts to colleagues and effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams Dedicated work ethic Valid US driver’s license Must be authorized to work for any company in the United States.
