Job Description At CRB, we’re experiencing an ever-growing expectation for guidance around designing and constructing facilities that are sustainable and support our clientele’s commitments to social responsibility. As the Director of Energy & Sustainability at CRB, you will coordinate the development of our client-facing Sustainability business unit in collaboration with key stakeholders to articulate and market CRB’s Sustainability services and contribute to CRB’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) activities led by our Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) department. This role can be based out of any of CRB’s regional locations in the United States. Your role will primarily be responsible (Approximately 80% of your time) for building CRB’s Sustainability consulting services group in line with CRB’s vision: preeminent teams, remarkable experiences, and powerful solutions. These services will focus on key Sustainability needs for life sciences and food and beverage manufacturing clients. You will work closely with CRB’s technical leadership in overseeing the development of consulting, design, and construction tools and standards. You will also provide guidance (approximately 20% of your time) to CRB’s leadership in developing and maintaining our corporate stance on climate change-related activities and be the public face of this to the broader marketplace. This position is best filled by an experienced sustainability-focused professional with AEC project manager experience, who is passionate about sustainable practices, team leadership and organization, and business development. Roles and Responsibilities Evaluate the market needs and work closely with CRB leadership to define CRB’s optimal value proposition for sustainability services. Grow the client-facing Energy & Sustainability (E&S) consulting team (encompassing multidisciplinary sustainability SMEs) to provide a diverse set of related services to the life sciences and food and beverage manufacturing industries. Utilize the unique expertise of this decentralized team to support regional projects and global strategic opportunities (GSOs). Cultivate new CRB clients for sustainability-related service offerings and drive business development within the existing client base. Provide E&S thought leadership within CRB’s core industries through speaking engagements and related forums, as well as participating in external organizations focused on sustainability. Manage E&S projects, driving pursuit and capture strategy, proposal development as well as the successful execution (scope, schedule, budget, and client satisfaction) of these projects. Develop client sustainability roadmaps. Help clients define and achieve their climate change-related goals. Collaborate with other key sustainability leadership roles at CRB, supporting the definition of CRB’s organizational Science Based Targets across the company and represent CRB during client supplier audits. Provide leadership and direction on software, tools and technology that support sustainability efforts. Interface with and present information to corporate, operational, and technical leadership on a regular basis regarding the progress and development of the Sustainability consulting services team. Collaborate with other key sustainability leaders to benchmark with peer companies, as well as other industries and organizations to identify trends and business opportunities with respect to sustainability. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Engineering, Architecture, or Environmental Science. Ten (10) years of professional experience with a preferred five (5) years in the architecture, engineering, and construction (A/E/C) industry. Seven (7) years of professional experience in people leadership roles. Project management experience, including business development, pursuit and capture strategy, proposal development and project execution. Proven success in developing client relationships and selling consulting services across various levels of client management. Ability to plan and implement both short-term execution and long-term vision-based (internal) projects, managing schedule & budget. Ability to effectively lead all necessary aspects of operating a business unit with P&L responsibility. Knowledge of Green Building Codes and Standards. Preferred Qualifications Professional Licensure (Registered Architect or Professional Engineer). Five (5) years of professional experience in Energy & Sustainability focused roles. Advanced knowledge of best practices and cutting-edge sustainable strategies, including (but not limited to) alternative energies, carbon reduction strategies, and sustainable construction practices. Expertise on US local and federal incentives, trends, and regulations related to sustainability and sustainable AEC practices. Knowledge of federal and local government sustainability incentives. Experience with on-site sustainable construction practices (including but not limited to) waste management, reusable materials, etc. Experience with energy modeling software(s) (understanding of capabilities, applications, outcomes). LEED AP and/or Green Globes accreditation. WELL, Fitwell, and/or other health and wellness accreditations. Experience with GMP facility design in the Life Science and/or Food and Beverage industries. Experience growing new service offerings and building highly effective teams. Experience developing and managing departmental budgets. Knowledge of and practical experience in support of cost estimation for sustainable materials, strategies, and projects. Experience with speaking at tradeshows and other industry forums.
