As a Geologist, you will play an integral role in assisting with geological and geotechnical data collection and interpretation in marine environments. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in geotechnical investigations, soil and sediment analysis, and the application of geotechnical principles in coastal engineering projects. Under the guidance of senior team members, you will contribute to geotechnical surveys, data analysis, and report preparation. Responsibilities: Assist in conducting geotechnical investigations in marine environments, including field surveys and seabed sampling. Support the collection of geotechnical data, such as soil and sediment samples, and assist with laboratory testing and analysis. Participate in the interpretation of geological and geotechnical data to assess seabed composition, sediment characteristics, and geological hazards. Perform routine inspection, maintenance, and minor repair of equipment especially when it comes to fine tuning systems for best results. Collaborate with senior team members to integrate geotechnical findings with other relevant data sets. Contribute to the planning and execution of geotechnical surveys, including assisting with the design of sampling methodologies and survey strategies. Assist in the preparation of geotechnical reports and presentations, summarizing findings and recommendations. Support the use of geotechnical software and data analysis tools for interpreting and visualizing geotechnical data. Stay updated on industry best practices, emerging technologies, and advancements in marine geotechnical data collection and interpretation. Participate in professional development opportunities, such as workshops and training sessions, to enhance your geologic/geotechnical skills and knowledge. Qualifications: A bachelor's or a master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Geology, or a related field. 3-5 years of relevant experience. Strong passion for marine geology and coastal engineering. Familiarity with geotechnical principles, including soil mechanics, sedimentology, and geological hazards. Basic knowledge of geotechnical laboratory techniques and equipment for soil and sediment analysis is desirable. Proficiency in using geotechnical software and data analysis tools is a plus. Knowledge of AutoCAD or GIS a plus. Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly. Ability to work effectively in a team and collaborate with colleagues. Eagerness to learn and develop skills in geotechnical research methodologies and data analysis techniques. Commitment to safety protocols and ethical research practices in marine geotechnical investigations. Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Valid state driver’s license. Physical Requirements: Alternating periods of standing on a vessel and sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Working in outdoor weather conditions on a vessel, with field assignment periods of up to 5 weeks. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
