The Systems Engineering Division (SED) provides unmatched experience in systems engineering to the U.S. government and to numerous public and private agencies, universities, nonprofit organizations, consortia, and commercial companies involved in the advanced application of space technology. From systems architecture development to system analysis and optimization, astrodynamics, orbital debris, navigation, failure analysis, mission assurance, cost and schedule assessment, and economic market analysis, SED exploits an incredibly broad array of engineering and business disciplines against a diverse and dynamic portfolio of programs and national challenges. The Infrastructure & Facilities Department (iFAD) is the source of expertise in facilities and operations engineering to our corporate customers. iFAD provides an array of technical capabilities that support our customers in assuring the availability, readiness, and success of ground assets/services required to meet the needs of the national security and commercial space enterprises. We have a current need for a motivated mechanical/environmental engineer to join our high-performing team in solving some of today's most difficult facilities and infrastructure problems and help evolve our capabilities in meeting the technical challenges of tomorrow. This position requires an innovative, decisive individual who works effectively in a highly collaborative, team-based environment who can set goals/expectations and effectively execute. We are seeking experienced candidates with the ability to work within multi-disciplinary project teams proficient in all phases of facility-related project design and controls throughout the facility life cycle, including the requirements/concept design development, construction, and operations & maintenance/sustainment phases. RESPONSIBILITIES We expect the candidate to: Be self-motivating and able to work without appreciable direction from management with overall responsibility for project engineer and project administrator duties directly relating to each project. Utilize and/or develop and implement advanced analytical techniques to evaluate mechanical systems and optimize overall systems performance. Perform detailed analysis for mechanical systems and subsystem designs with an emphasis on heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) design, test, and capabilities analysis. Review safety and fire protection/detection systems designs. Review and provide engineering review comments to technical documents with/from third-party designers, engineering disciplines, procurement, and construction contractors. Employ a rigorous and methodical approach to problem solving and identifying root cause of facility system failures and problems encountered during construction and/or operations. Assist in constructability reviews. Support construction by dispositioning field change requests and nonconformance reports, performing construction observations, reviewing construction submittals, and witness field testing. Participate in activities associated with equipment and material procurement, inspection, testing, acceptance, installation, and commissioning. Lead and/or participate in technical discussions with clients, suppliers, construction contractors, etc. Deliver independent, data-driven technical reports and recommendations to management and customers through effective verbal and written communication. Act as a mentor or coach for early career engineers and designers. Travel to customer and/or government facilities while representing the company and department in a professional manner, including in and outside the continental United States. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in mechanical engineering or related engineering degree from an accredited college or university. A minimum of eight (8) years of experience in the mechanical engineering design/construction for building and infrastructure. Registered Professional Engineer (PE) license (current). Knowledge of cooling systems, chillers, HVAC, generators, plumbing, fire protection. Knowledge of facilities building maintenance and operations. Experience with Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) evaluations for existing and new facilities. Thorough knowledge of engineering deliverables, such as construction documents and material requisitions and of construction methods for industrial infrastructure and critical mechanical systems. Self-starter with proficient time management skills to multi-task and manage several projects simultaneously and deliver results within established time boundaries. Strong interpersonal skills with excellent written and oral communication skills. Working knowledge and applications of industry building codes and regulations (e.g., IBC, IPC, IFC, NFPA, ASTM, ASHRAE, ASME, etc.). Proficiency with AutoCAD and/or analogous computer-aided drafting programs. Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Project, and Visio. Ability and willingness to travel (Domestic/International). This position requires a current and active TS/SCI clearance, which is issued by the U.S. government. U.S. citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Master's degree in mechanical engineering or advanced degree in related engineering field. Proficient in the use of Mathcad, MATLAB, or similar software. Experience performing Value Engineering, Constructability Reviews, Safety Reviews, and O&M Reviews. Working knowledge of US defense industry facility acquisition and operations practices. Working knowledge of US Department of Defense (DoD) Unified Facility Criteria (UFC) documents. Experience in mechanical design for Nuclear Quality and Safety Environment. Experience with ground systems design and construction. Experience with data center design and construction. Experience with the design, construction, operations, and maintenance of federal, military and/or space launch base facilities and their related infrastructures. Construction field experience. Experience preparing forensic engineering investigations, studies, and reports. Current Q clearance.
