Overview We are seeking a dedicated Environmental and Sustainability Manager to lead efforts in ensuring compliance with environmental regulations, promoting sustainability initiatives, and managing environmental risks. The ideal candidate will have an in-depth understanding of EPA regulations, as well as other relevant federal, state, and local environmental laws. This role involves working closely with various departments to implement environmental policies, manage permits, and foster sustainability programs that support the company’s commitment to environmental stewardship while reducing the organization’s carbon footprint. Duties & Responsibilities Regulatory Compliance: Monitor and ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations, including those established by the EPA, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and other federal, state, and local agencies. Manage the environmental auditing program to assess compliance, develop programmatic changes when areas of improvement or potential risks are identified. Manage the preparation, submission, and maintenance of regulatory permits and reports (e.g., NPDES, air emissions permits). Management of environmental pollution superfund sites including budget (over 5M), regulatory reporting, and site remediation plans. Liaise with regulatory agencies such as the EPA and local environmental authorities to address compliance matters. Sustainability Initiatives: Develop, implement, and manage sustainability programs that reduce the company’s environmental impact, such as energy conservation, waste reduction, and water efficiency. Strategically develop the plan and implementation of the “We Sustain” KPI’s to report publicly carbon emissions to meet SOX compliance. Collaborate with procurement, operations, and R&D teams to implement sustainable practices across the supply chain and product lifecycle. Deploy an employee engagement program focused on sustainability as part of the Employer of Choice program. Environmental Impact Assessment: Perform environmental risk assessments and environmental impact assessments (EIAs) for ongoing and new projects. Evaluate hazardous waste management practices and ensure safe and compliant disposal methods in line with RCRA and other hazardous waste laws. Training and Reporting: Develop and deliver environmental compliance and sustainability training to employees. Compile and present environmental performance reports to internal stakeholders and regulatory agencies. Stay current on environmental policies, emerging trends, and industry best practices, advising senior management on strategic opportunities and potential risks. Cross-Departmental Collaboration: Work with facilities management, engineering, and manufacturing teams to integrate environmental considerations into project planning and operational processes. Lead cross-functional sustainability teams to promote continuous environmental improvement and innovation. Candidate Requirements Strong analytical skills and attention to detail in auditing and regulatory reporting. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for interacting with regulatory agencies, internal teams, and other stakeholders. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and familiarity with environmental reporting software is a plus. Experience working in industries such as manufacturing, energy, or waste management. Certification in sustainability or environmental management (e.g., LEED, CEM, or similar). Familiarity with corporate social responsibility (CSR) frameworks and sustainability reporting (e.g., GRI, CDP). Education Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sustainability, or a related field. Master’s degree is preferred. Experience 5 years of experience in environmental compliance, sustainability, or related field, preferably with a focus on EPA and federal regulations. In-depth knowledge of EPA regulations, OSHA standards, and environmental legislation (e.g., CERCLA, TSCA, NEPA). Experience with environmental management systems (EMS), ISO 14001 certification a plus. Ability to demonstrate strong project management skills.
