The Lexington Hotel, New York, New York, United States of America Job Description The Engineering Manager at The Lexington Hotel is responsible for assisting in maintaining the building and grounds, with particular attention to safety, security, and asset protection. Furthermore, this role assigns, tracks, and follows up on the status of work assigned to staff and contractors as needed and helps increase guest and team member satisfaction through effective communications and training. This role will also assist in managing budget, capital expenditures, preventative maintenance, and energy conservation. Responsibilities: Establish and maintain open, collaborative relationships with team members. Monitor timeliness and quality of completion of repair work orders. Assist in managing and inspecting the physical property including equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment, electrical and life safety systems. Determine work required to above systems regularly. Assist in providing regular ongoing communication with team members in order to create awareness of business objectives, communicate expectations, and recognize performance. Recommend or arrange for additional services such as painting, repair work, renovations, and the replacement of furnishings and equipment. Select and order or purchase new equipment, supplies, and furnishings. Assist in supervising the day-to-day operations of Engineering and related departments. Maintain accurate logs and records. Operate generators and fire pumps as necessary. Repair equipment (e.g., refrigeration, laundry) as necessary. Ensure all team members have the proper supplies, equipment, and uniforms. Empower team members to provide excellent customer service, lead by example. Train team members in safety procedures. Communicate performance expectations in accordance with job descriptions. Assist in interviews and hiring of team members with the appropriate skills. Conduct fire drills and earthquake drills/evacuations on a quarterly basis for compliance. Requirements: High school degree (or equivalency) with Hotel/College training preferred. Stationary Engineer’s license if required by local code. HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boiler operations and general maintenance skills required. Substantial knowledge of local laws and building codes. A minimum of 2 years’ experience in the Engineering or Maintenance or related field. Hold applicable certificates (Security License, FSD, CPR, etc.). Knowledge and ability to read P&L, budget, financial statements. Strong oral and written communication skills. Experience working in a labor organized environment preferred. Effective listening skills to understand and clarify concerns from team members and guests. Excellent problem solving and creative thinking skills. Solid background in OSHA regulations, emergency planning and response efforts and follow all legal safety requirements. Ability to focus attention to performance of tasks despite frequent, stressful, or unusual interruptions. Ability to de-escalate situations and remain calm under pressure. Organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office. Excellent time management. Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment. Strong leadership and communication skills. An aptitude for self-motivation. A can-do attitude and a hands-on approach.
