Controls Engineer - Electrical East/North Haven, CT (our brand new North Haven plant should be completed this year)

For this U.S. based position, the expected compensation range is $96,000 - $144,000 per year, which includes base pay and annual short-term incentive. The compensation range for this full-time position applies to candidates located within the United States. Our salary ranges are determined by reviewing roles of similar responsibility and level. Within the salary range, individual pay is determined by several factors including performance, knowledge, job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. The Controls Engineer works on a team comprised of Electrical, Mechanical, Controls, Plant and Sales individuals to design and build custom ASCO Power Automated Transfer Switch products for a variety of clients. No two projects will be the same and this person will be involved with the entire project lifecycle from initial design services until final commissioning.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Develop PLC Programs per provided sequence of operation .
- Develop HMI programs per Asco standards and matching customer requirements.
- Provides engineering information by answering questions and requests.
- Works with Test in troubleshooting designs and completing projects by freely and openly collaborating with Test Technicians.
- Maintains Product and company reputation by complying with applicable regulations and standards.
- Expected to work with assistance from other sources such as engineering, project management, purchasing etc, With more experience, limited assistance is expected.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Evaluates assigned projects by designing and conducting research around custom specifications and applying degreed level knowledge of Controls and Automation.
- Releases projects to manufacturing by assembling bill of materials.
- May be required to represent assigned engineering functions during Factory Witness Tests.
- Assumes additional responsibilities as assigned.
- Travel potential up to 10% may be required (not usually right away).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Three or more years of professional experience in Automation and Controls, PLC programming, meeting schedules and providing technical support.
- PLC configuration (part of the interview process includes testing on this).
- AutoCAD, Word Processing, Spreadsheets, File Management Software , Ladder Logic.
- Strong Work Ethic: Self-motivated and dedicated to completing the task at hand regardless of setbacks.
- KEY SKILLS: Positive Attitude, Flexible, Remains calm under pressure and Coachable.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- SCADA or Wonderware experience.
- Basic Understanding of Switchgear or Automated Transfer Switch (ATS) (ASCO Power experience preferred).
- Basic understanding of the fundamental concepts involved in electrical circuit design, Power Systems, Digital Logic and basic Protective Relaying applications.
- Experience with GE Proficy Software or Modicon Control Expert Software.
- Awareness of applicable codes, including NEC, NFPA110, UL508, UL891, UL1008 and UL1558 is a plus.
EDUCATION EXPERIENCE (Electrical):
- 4 year engineering degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering or equivalent experience.
