Position SummaryThe Safety Manager manages the DC Safety Program to ensure a safe and accident-free work
environment. Promotes and builds a strong safety culture and drives the execution and
continuous improvement of health and safety-related policies and training for the assigned
facility. Completes evaluations to determine risk and compliance, conducts accident
investigations, plans / delivers employee training, and provides guidance to Safety Team
members. May also oversee First Aid stations, workers' compensation administration, and
manage/support environmental assessments, RMP, WHSH and OSHA audits.
Specific ResponsibilitiesManage the Safety Program for the facility, includes the areas of workers'
compensation, ergonomics, safety training, accident prevention, OSHA,
audiometric testing, environmental sustainability, and safety reporting.
- Implement and enforce safety processes and initiatives, as directed
by management and the Corporate Director EHS. - Monitor adherence to the Safety Program practices and procedures.
- Communicate and collaborate with other distribution facility Safety
Managers to ensure consistent communication and application of
safety related policies and training. - Develop or assist in the development of Safety Standard Operating
Procedures (S.O.P.'s). - Coach and guide management in creating a culture of safety and risk
prevention; key resource to employees regarding safety practices and
procedures. - Develop and conduct/coordinate applicable safety and first aid
training. Conduct parts of New Hire Orientation - Maintain open communication with outside organizations, including
the fire department, rescue teams and mutual aid societies (e.g. Red
Cross). - Promote employee engagement.
Evaluate the facility, equipment, employees and overall operations to
determine risk and compliance with applicable regulations, laws and
company policy and procedures.
- Inspect machinery/equipment, facilities, and fire and safety equipment
to identify potential hazards. Evaluate and determine appropriate
corrective action. - Identify and assess conditions which may create accidents and
financial losses. Evaluate potential extent of injuries - Recommend, evaluate and support process and equipment changes.
With technical assistance, examine equipment plans and specifications
to determine safety requirements and devices.
Conduct accident and injury investigations and analysis. Prepare accident
reports. Recommend appropriate safety-related corrective action to
prevent reoccurrence and / or complete follow-up of implemented
solutions, as appropriate.
Seek process improvement opportunities by evaluating current
procedures and practices and suggesting improvements for approval,
development and implementation.
Plan and direct activities of the Safety, Ergonomics and Health & Wellness
teams. Assign or delegate responsibility for specific work or functional
activities. Provide First Responder / First Aid services and accompany
personnel for medical evaluation and treatment, as needed. May conduct
drug screens.
Compile, analyze, and interpret statistical data related to exposure factors
and accidents and prepare reports for personnel concerned. Maintain
environmental records. Develop reports and records on department
activities for management.
Minimum Qualifications• Bachelor's degree in a Health and Safety related field or equivalent years of related work
experience required
• Professional EHS certification preferred
• Knowledge and understanding of safety concepts, foundations, principles, and techniques
of risk control, as applied to an occupational setting
• Knowledge of federal, state, local, and OSHA and environmental regulations
• Strong analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Strong project management and leadership skills with the ability to develop and implement
safety processes
• Excellent communication skills; ability to conduct employee training
• Strong Microsoft Office skills, including PowerPoint and Microsoft Teams.
Minimum Job Experience Required• 5+ years of safety management work experience
• Previous safety experience in an industrial environment
