Position Objective: Provide services as a Biologist in support of the overall functions of the Vaccine Production Program within the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID).
Duties and Responsibilities: - Develop assays for virus vaccines, recombinant proteins and virus-like particles that may be used as clinical vaccine candidates.
- Develop for cGMP product characterization and release quantitative assays, including ELISA, indirect ELISA, Host Cell Protein ELISA, SDS-PAGE, BCA assay, and Endotoxin; experience with Neutralization assay and Viral Titer assays; instrumentation experience with HPLC (affinity chromatography), PCR, and Flow cytometry.
- Conduct or participate in projects within a specific area or field. Projects are assigned and are typically small or part of larger projects.
- Make observations, analyzes data, and interprets results.
- Present findings at internal meetings.
- Contribute to the preparation of manuscripts.
- Prepare precise technical reports summaries, protocols, quantitative analyses, and maintains appropriate documentation.
- Present findings at internal meetings and/or contribute to the preparation of manuscripts and patent applications.
- Use and apply standard principles, theories, concepts and techniques in a limited area or field.
- Provide solutions to a variety of problems of diverse scope involving basic scientific principles.
- Develop new methods, technologies, and processes when necessary for project advancement.
Basic Qualifications: - Bachelors Degree in Biology or a related science field is required
- At least 7 years of experience in vaccine development working including Good laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) experience is required.
Minimum Qualifications: - Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with non-technical and technical staff.
- Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects
