SUSTAINABILITY DIRECTORWe are seeking a dynamic and experienced
Sustainability Director to join our architectural and engineering firm. This role is pivotal in integrating sustainability-from a holistic viewpoint-- into our design process: informing building design solutions, driving energy savings, understanding and leveraging grants into our projects; and staying ahead of market and technology trends. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sustainability practices, energy efficiency, and market analysis, with a proven track record of successful project integration.
The Sustainability Director will be a collaborator, with an appreciation for diverse ideas and the ability to inspire and lead others. Working in conjunction with our Design Director, he/she will understand CPL's design processes and integrate sustainable design strategies that help guide and inform a project's overall design solutions.
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE - Bachelor's or master's degree in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in sustainability, energy management, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of sustainability practices, energy efficiency, and green building standards.
- Experience with grant writing and management.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to create and execute sustainable processes holistically across CPL's diverse geographic and market sector footprint.
- Strong operational excellence to build and grow a dedicated team/department.
CORE DUTIES- Sustainability Integration:
- Lead the integration of sustainable practices into all architectural, interiors and engineering projects through our design processes
- Develop and implement sustainability strategies within CPL's design process that align with client goals and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with project teams to ensure sustainability goals are met throughout the project lifecycle.
- Lead CPL's Climate Smart Committee.
- Energy Savings:
- Identify and implement energy-saving measures in design and construction processes.
- Conduct energy audits and provide recommendations for improvements.
- Monitor and report on energy performance metrics.
- Grant Understanding and Management:
- Research and identify relevant grants and funding opportunities for sustainability projects.
- Prepare and submit grant applications, ensuring compliance with all requirements.
- Manage awarded grants, including reporting and financial tracking.
- Market and Technology Trends Analysis:
- Stay informed about the latest trends and advancements in sustainability and green building practices.
- Collaborate with Design Director and NPL's on integration of sustainable practices within CPL's design process framework.
- Analyze market data to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.
- Provide insights and recommendations to senior management based on market trends.
- Client and Stakeholder Engagement:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients on sustainability-related matters.
- Present sustainability strategies and outcomes to clients and stakeholders.
- Build and maintain relationships with industry partners, government agencies, and community organizations.
- Sector-Specific Expertise:
- K-12 Education: Develop and implement sustainability programs tailored to the unique needs of K-12 educational facilities, focusing on energy efficiency, healthy learning environments, and cost savings.
- Higher Education: Collaborate with universities and colleges to integrate sustainable practices into campus planning, building design, and operations, promoting long-term environmental stewardship.
- Infrastructure: Lead sustainability initiatives in infrastructure projects, ensuring the incorporation of green building standards and resilient design practices.
- Healthcare: Implement sustainable solutions in healthcare facilities to enhance patient well-being, reduce operational costs, and meet regulatory requirements.
- Community Projects: Engage with community stakeholders to promote sustainable development practices in residential and public spaces, fostering community resilience and environmental responsibility.
- Industrial Work: Drive sustainability in industrial projects by optimizing resource use, reducing waste, and improving energy efficiency to support sustainable industrial growth.

The rate for this position generally ranges between 131K-197K annually. This range is a good faith estimate provided pursuant to the New York Pay Transparency Law. It is based on what a successful New York applicant might be paid and assumes that the successful candidate will be in New York or perform the position from New York. Similar positions located outside of New York will not necessarily receive the same compensation. Actual pay rates may vary from the range, as permitted by New York Equal Pay Transparency Law. Compensation offers will be based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications and experience, work location and comparison to employees already in the role, as well as other considerations permitted by law.
