The Chief Engineer at the Hilton Garden Inn Cleveland Downtown is responsible for ensuring proper operations, maintenance, service, and repair of all equipment. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Ensure that the Preventative Maintenance program is implemented and administered according to MCR standards. Evaluate and spot check the work of all staff and contractors or outside laborers. Handle guestroom maintenance requests in a timely manner. Maintain files of and be familiar with all operational manuals and warranty agreements for equipment. Immediately follow up on any alarms to determine the exact location and cause; determine emergency status and report to Guest Services and/or the General Manager with findings. Manage energy expenses and continually work towards energy conservation. Ensure that pool and spa follow area health codes. Maintain a key control system and ensure it is adhered to. Always comply with MCR standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations. Train and supervise the Engineering staff and coordinate all scheduling. Respond to emergency situations using information contained in Material Safety Data sheets. Keep Material Safety Data sheets current and easily available (with Housekeeping Manager). Coordinate all inspections of the fire safety systems, including extinguishers, smoke alarms, etc., to maintain proper safety standards. Approach all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous, and service oriented manner. Other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Must have a positive attitude and willingness to learn. Verbal and written communication skills. Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations. Reasoning abilities are always utilized. Basic maintenance skills required. Proficient in use of hand tools, power tools, test equipment. Valid driver’s license and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Driving Record (property specific). Must be proficient in Windows operating systems, Company approved spreadsheets and word processing. Must be able to convey information and ideas clearly. Must have a desire to serve all guests. Must be 18 years of age or older to perform this job. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Technical, Trade or Vocational school degree. Licensed in a trade preferred (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, etc.). 2 years of work-related experience Carry all equipment (e.g., keys, phones, pager, tools, radio) to maintain preparedness to always carry out work tasks.
