Job Description:Summary:
The person in this position will work on projects that further develop our environmental practice, specifically contaminated site assessment, remediation, and reclamation and closure capabilities in the Intermountain West. The primary clients this person will work with are in the mining sector with opportunities in the oil and gas, power, and public sectors. Project work may include collaborating with and coordinating multidisciplinary teams; preparing reports for regulatory submission (e.g., investigation reports, permit applications, management plans); preparing technical work plans and cost estimates for investigations of mine waste, contaminated soil, sediment, groundwater, and surface water; interpreting data; conducting remediation technology evaluations and feasibility studies; developing remediation, reclamation, and closure plans; preparing technical reports; and coordinating site remediation and reclamation activities. Additionally, the selected candidate will be involved in client and regulatory communication, mentor junior staff, and be responsible for financial performance on projects.
Typical business-development activities may include building and maintaining client relationships, tracking marketing leads and project opportunities, developing proposals and presentations, networking, and sharing Barr's capabilities with existing and potential clients.
Fulfillment of the position responsibilities may require periodic travel in the United States and potentially Canada.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, civil engineering, geological engineering, or a related field
- 5 or more years of relevant work experience
- Understanding of the application of environmental quality guidelines to data collected from various environmental media and land uses
- Technical knowledge of the federal and state environmental regulations and programs related to environmental site assessments, environmental regulations, mine waste regulations, and site remediation and treatment technologies
- Excellent communication and technical report writing skills
- Demonstrated client-relationship skills and interest in growing business development skills
- Demonstrated effectiveness in building working relationships and participating in multidiscipline teams
- Demonstrated task management and organization skills
- A flexible working style and willingness to modify personal schedule as required to meet project deadlines and/or client needs
- Willingness to travel for project and business development purposes
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship from Barr, now or in the future
- Possession of a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in environmental engineering or related field
- 10 or more years of relevant work experience
- Demonstrated project management and business development success
- Experience or interest in heap leach piles, tailings and mine rock stockpile management, environmental risk assessment, soil salvage, mine closure and reclamation, and/or land use planning.
- Currently registered as a Professional Engineer (PE)
- Established network with mining or other industrial clients and the ability to develop or foster ongoing relationships and maintain a high level of client service
A hybrid or remote work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of Barr's Salt Lake City, Utah; Denver, Colorado; or Duluth, Hibbing, and Minneapolis, Minnesota, offices. A remote work arrangement would require periodic (e.g., quarterly) visits to a Barr office.
Compensation:
The anticipated base salary range for this position is $75,000-$100,000/year. This position is classified as exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Compensation will vary based upon relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance. Barr has a "no retained earnings" model and distributes all its profit to our employees through our bonus plan and ESOP.
