Description The Environment and Energy Department is seeking a Waste Reduction and Recycling Supervisor to supervise Waste Reduction and Recycling programs. Waste Reduction and Recycling programs have been grouped into the following areas: commercial, residential, and materials management.
This position is eligible to receive an additional cash merit of up to $5530.87 that can be earned annually based on performance.
Location and hours: This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the 625 Building in downtown Minneapolis at 625 Fourth Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55415 and remote as job duties require. Work hours are Monday through Friday, between the hours of 6:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. and may require some Saturdays hours between 6:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

In this position, you will: - Provide work direction and supervise 5-6 employees.
- Contribute to the development of an annual budget of $14M. Manage complex waste reduction and recycling programs related to businesses, schools, municipalities, residents, specific material types, and county operations.
- Represent the county at meetings with residents and various stakeholders.
- Develop policies and plans for management review.
- Provide leadership to further department-based strategies that align with county goals, mission and core values for diversity, equity & inclusion.
Need to have: Bachelor's degree or higher in physical or natural sciences, environmental health, industrial hygiene, public health, engineering, public, business administration or a closely related field
and four or more years of experience in environmental or environmental health related programs.
Nice to have:- Three years or more of waste reduction and recycling experience.
- Two years or more of past supervisory experience.
- Experience leading teams, including setting goals, prioritizing tasks, managing timelines, and motivating others to achieve results.
- Experience or education around addressing racial equity, gender equity, LGBTQIA equity, neurodiversity equity, differing ability equity.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with experience building positive working relationships, resolving conflicts, and fostering collaboration.
- Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in their work and interactions.
