Job Description Location: 5010 Solid Waste & RecyclingPay Grade: A11FLSA Status: ExemptUnder general supervision, supports the Solid Waste & Recycling Manager in the daily management of the City's Solid Waste and Recycling operations. Plans, develops, leads, trains, and monitors the fleet, collections staff, cart maintenance staff, bulky collections, and customer relations.
*This position performs duties deemed to be "safety-sensitive" and is therefore subjected to random drug testing under the City's policies* Essential Job Functions - Supervises staff in the collection and transfer/disposal of refuse, recycling, yard waste, bulky waste, and various other solid waste items;
- Assists with interviewing, coaching, counseling, training, evaluating, and disciplining personnel. Plans and schedules work assignments for various activities within the SW&R department.
- Maintains computerized operational records; writes reports and maintains daily records of activity. Conducts operations meetings, clearly communicates operations expectations, evaluates the staff in the safe operation of equipment.
- Responds to a variety of operational situations which may include vehicle incidents, routine and non-routine operational matters, equipment failures, workers compensation injuries, etc.
- Ensures operational compliance to all environmental rules, regulations, laws, codes, and standards.
- Coordinates vehicle and equipment repairs with appropriate maintenance facilities.
- Provides input and statistical data to the Solid Waste Manager and Director for use in preparation of the budget.
- Maintains inventory of supplies and materials and orders new as needed.
- Effectively communicates with customers, employees, and managers.
- Assists in enforcing city, state and department regulations.
- Addresses complaints and resolves problems with both employees and customers.
- Performs duties of the Solid Waste & Recycling Manager in his or her absence.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Education and Experience Requires a High School Diploma or GED equivalent, supplemented by three to five years of disposal experience and one to three years of experience supervising personnel; or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid Driver's License issued by the State of Oklahoma for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
Physical Requirements Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate physical effort in medium work, typically involving some combination of balancing, climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, handling, hearing, kneeling, mental acuity, reaching, repetitive motion, speaking, standing, talking, visual acuity, walking and which involves some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (up to 50 pounds).

Monthly Rates:Retirement - The City offers a 401(a) defined contribution retirement plan through the Oklahoma Municipal Retirement Fund (OMRF). The City contributes 10% of the employees' earnings into the plan. Employees become 20% vested after three years and vesting increases 20% for each additional year of service until 100% vesting is achieved at seven years. Employees may elect to contribute an additional amount.

Paid Leave - Vacation: One week of vacation is available after six months of employment. Thereafter, vacation is accrued monthly according to year of service.

- Year 5 - 9: 15 days per year
- Year 10 - 14: 20 days per year
- Year 15 - 19: 22 days per year
- 20 years +: 25 days per year
Holidays: Twelve paid holidays, plus one floating holiday each year.
Sick: Eight hours per month up to maximum of 1,040 hours (130 working days).
