What you will do

In this vital role, the Executive Director (ED) of Global Strategic Sourcing (GSS) will provide leadership for developing strategic plans and execution for $3B spend, partnering with Amgen's core business functions - R&D and ATMOS (Digital Medical, Safety, Regulatory, Technology, Data, and Innovation). Responsibilities include delivering savings targets and value capture through strategic category deployment, engagement in company-wide productivity programs, and relationship management. The ED will lead sourcing staff based in critical business sites and play a significant role in ensuring effective procurement strategies aligned with Amgen's business strategy. This role serves as a strategic leader and innovative problem solver, requiring the ability to think and act globally.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead business engagement with stakeholders across R&D and ATMOS globally and direct activities across 9 market-facing spend categories through a team of 13 sourcing professionals.
Provide strategic vision for the team aligned with the broader vision of GSS.
Frame and drive productivity agenda linked to business strategy.
Drive innovation, ensure performance, and manage risks through supplier relationship management.
Integrate Supplier Diversity and Sustainability into category strategies.
Assess the appropriate organizational structure and prioritize resources and strategic priorities.
Engage in governance forums at both the business function and initiative levels.
Drive results and create a sense of urgency through program management.
Recruit and develop talent enabling staff to achieve their career goals.
Develop and nurture productive relationships with business partners and suppliers.
Partner with GSS Leadership peers to evolve the organization and culture.
Ensure sustained execution of progressive global sourcing strategies, policies, and procedures.

Basic Qualifications:

Doctorate degree & 6 years of sourcing experience OR
Master's degree & 10 years of sourcing experience OR
Bachelor's degree & 12 years of sourcing experience AND
6 years of managerial experience directly managing people and/or leadership experience leading teams, projects, programs, or directing the allocation of resources.

Preferred Qualifications:

10 years of experience in Sourcing functions or significant roles in business operations of a publicly held company with revenues of more than $10 billion.
A bachelor's degree in business/finance or related field.
Experience in transforming the service delivery model or leading through a transformation effort.
Thought leadership in maximizing productivity through innovative methods.
Significant Sourcing experience in R&D and Technology preferred.
Experience with large group leadership of a global organization.
Ability to function well in a fast-paced, results-oriented, data-driven environment.
Adaptability in approach and comfort in leading a geographically dispersed team.
Strong interpersonal, teamwork, analytical, and organizational skills.
Executive level written, presentation, and communication skills.
