Purpose of Position:

Under the general supervision of the Senior Executive Director of Building Services, this position will be responsible for managing and leading the development and implementation of district-wide sustainability and environmental strategies, policies, and training. The essential job functions include providing direction and partnering with leadership on sustainability planning and strategic development plus implementation to meet environmental goals. This position will also be responsible for environmental regulatory compliance and maintaining district-wide environmental and sustainability key performance metrics to support continuous improvement toward sustainability goals and communication around our sustainability efforts and goals with district stakeholders.

The Sustainability Project Manager position is an exciting opportunity to lead the efforts to incorporate into the 2024 Long Range Facility Plan consideration for energy efficiency, greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction and non-fossil energy projects. This position will lead the development of a strategy and timeline for GHG emissions reduction and additional energy efficiency projects based on the recommendations and use of area subject matter experts and industry. In addition, the Sustainability Project Manager will identify grants and other external funding resources to assist in our efforts to reduce GHG emissions, install geothermal systems, solar panels, and implement major energy efficiency improvements. This position will have a high degree of integrity, sustain a culture of continuous improvement, and be committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Key Responsibilities:

Managing and executing sustainability projects
Creating and maintaining partnerships with stakeholders
Organizational Responsiveness and compliance and develop short- and long-term plans to accomplish District departmental goals and objectives
Prepare Board of Education reports and summaries as identified for divisions and departments
Being a strategic leaders and have a growth mindset while focusing on creating a positive work environment
Responding to compliance and other organizations updates and changes
Follow principles and practices that promote and advance anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Plan, develop, and implement any necessary training and growth plans to ensure continued sustainability efforts and projects can be developed and maintained.

Physical and Sensory Requirements:

Tasks involve the ability to exert moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling objects and materials of moderate weight, twenty to fifty pounds.

Environmental Adaptability

Position requires availability during business hours and the ability to manage after-hours emergency situations.
Ability to operate a variety of office equipment (personal computer, phone, fax, copier).
Ability to work under general safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to environmental factors is minimal and poses little to no risk of injury.

Working Conditions

Work requires travel to different locations within the district and to off-site meetings.
The position requires working evenings, nights and some weekends as needed.

Qualifications:

A qualified candidate will have all of the following:

Bachelor's degree in Energy Management, Sustainability, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or the equivalent of professional experience (8 years in lieu of formal higher education degree).
Minimum five years of professional experience in formal energy management and sustainability project management in commercial, industrial, or similar institutional settings.
Experience managing multi-faceted projects, performing all phases of the project life cycle and using appropriate project management methodologies.
Experience with project documents, the project process, and project management principles throughout a project life cycle (e.g., establishing project structures, defining goals and objectives, etc.).
Experience planning project timelines, milestones, and task schedules.
Experience using methods and tools used for risk identification, risk management, and risk mitigation.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

A well-qualified candidate will also have:

Certified Energy Manager (CEM) or willingness to obtain CEM Certification within one year of employment
