Job DescriptionWork Arrangement: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the office three times per week or other frequency dictated by the business.
The RoleThe Manager will lead a team within the EV Battery Lifecycle group. This person will be responsible for developing and executing the strategy for GM controlled Electric Vehicle batteries. The role will be responsible for setting the strategy of recycling for the EV battery in the context of internal and external indicators and drivers, spanning from battery raw material supply chain considerations, regulatory requirements, technology advancements, and sustainability metrics. This individual will also lead the execution of GM battery recycling in North America working with the Global Purchasing and Supply Chain teams to source battery recycling services. The applicant must be comfortable speaking in front of audiences internal & external providing an overview of GM's strategy. They will utilize their team to provide subject matter expertise for guidance to multiple internal organizations, including Public Policy, Communications, Legal as well as third party-facing.
What You'll Do - Lead small yet effective team and contribute to:
- Manage the GM controlled electric vehicle battery closed loop recycling strategy.
- Collaborate with various teams including Purchasing and Supply Chain, GM legal, Customer Care and Aftersales, Environmental, Safety, GM Ventures and others to support the vision for closed loop recycling at GM.
- Collaborate with GM development and manufacturing sites and relevant stakeholders to create Statement of Requirements documents to support sourcing of recycling services for North American battery scrap.
- Evaluate supplier capabilities and proposals for contract awards.
- Develop relevant business cases and drive decisions in the area of recycling value.
- Support Design for Recycling best practices throughout the vehicle development process including evaluating future battery designs and updating best practices based on the latest industry data.
- Work with internal and external collaborators to define and execute on project development plans.
- Support Public Policy strategy development.
- Support industry forums and partnerships related to battery recycling and closed loop development.
- Support internal and external communications needs.
- Create and foster an inclusive open culture where out-of-box thinking is encouraged. This manager will provide thought leadership, foster innovation, facilitate communication, and inspire passion into the organization.

Additional Job DescriptionYour Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)- 7 years or more of relevant experience in a related technical discipline
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Equivalent
- Demonstrated proficiency in technical and business strategy development that is applicable to battery lifecycle
- Ability to work with all levels within General Motors globally and across functional boundaries e.g. finance, purchasing, vehicle development, legal, including senior leaders
- Demonstrated capability to develop business cases for decisions requiring technical, logistical, regulatory, manufacturing and supplier inputs.
- Capability to develop and deliver high quality communications to internal and external stakeholders
What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)- 10 years of related experience
- An advanced degree (e.g., Masters in Engineering, an MBA or PhD in an Engineering discipline, Chemistry or Materials Science)
- Familiarity with battery electrochemistry theory and practice
- Understanding of automotive service processes and requirements
- Experience in running successful purchasing and engineering projects involving internal and external resources
- Knowledge of traditional product development, validation and release timing, milestones and test methodologies
- Experience leading people
